Laredo Carnalismo Brown Beret's hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of Renee Nicole Good, a mother, poet, and kind neighbor who was fatally shot by an ICE agent on Portland Avenue yesterday morning. Renee was a 37-year-old artist who had just moved to our city to build a life for her family.
While federal officials have attempted to frame this tragedy as an act of "self-defense," local leaders and witnesses who have reviewed the footage tell a different story. Mayor Jacob Frey has called the federal narrative "garbage," stating the vehicle was not being used as a weapon, and has demanded that ICE leave our city immediately.
We refuse to accept the normalization of this violence in our neighborhoods. We stand in solidarity with Renee’s partner, her three children, and every immigrant family currently living in fear.
