Our primary goal is to assist newly injured members and families as they transition home to their new lives. An overwhelming amount of items are required in a short period of time when newly injured quads first go home. Most items are essential to quads overall health and not the ability to continue therapy learned from rehab. The desire to continue therapy is a priority and there can be many hurd
les to overcome such at setting up outpatient therapy, transportation and any wound healing needed. Our “Going Home Tote” contains a pair of active hands gloves used for gripping and therapy bands. These easy and simple items allow quads to continue some simple, yet much needed therapy workouts at home. In addition, we add in a shower tray used to wash your hair while sitting in a power wheelchair. It may be many weeks or months from the time of injury to going home for quads. While going thru the initial recovery and therapy, showering isn’t a possibility and washing your hair isn’t an easy option. Once home, having the ability to back up to a sink and easily wash their hair is an amazing feeling afterwards. In the meantime, learning and adapting quads houses and lives for showering takes a little time but will come. Having a shower tray in the short term to properly wash their hair in the short term is a big morale boost. Mission #2: To the newly injured, coming home means waiting for rehabilitation items to be funded and/or approved by insurance or special programs. For us, we feel that our community can share and donate certain items to help the newly injured in getting equipment immediately. This equipment is to help them continue their healing and rehabilitation right when they get home and beyond. Receiving and distributing items from other members of the Spinal Cord Injured community is what the Salute the Fight Foundation facilitates. Donations help fund the costs of transporting and locating items for newly injured quads needing and waiting on equipment. The Salute the Fight Foundation is built upon the amazing spirit we experienced from others thru our families spinal cord injury. The small steps towards having a good day make the journey for a quad and their families bright, better and encouraging after such trauma. #4:13
