Last night at our meeting Kurt Brown, one of our members, and representative of the Sons of American Revolution, Paul Carrington Chapter, presented our President, Hector Hernandez, with a SAR Flag Certificate for the continued work the council does for the Cemetery and it’s flags. The new poles on the Avenue of Flags look amazing and when flying they fly flags that once draped on the casket of a fallen hero. Some loved ones donate flags to the Cemetery to fly there. Thank you Kurt Brown for the certificate.

Hurrah for Houston. We know how to turn out for our fellow veterans. Thank you to all that helped.

🇺🇸 Houston, YOU showed up! 🇺🇸

This year, the 2026 National Day of Service & Remembrance saw an incredible 17,069 volunteers nationwide—and Houston National Cemetery led the nation with 2,522 volunteers, the highest volunteer turnout of all participating cemeteries!

Thank you, Houston, for answering the call with heart, strength, and unwavering commitment to honoring our Veterans. Your dedication helped make a 207% increase in volunteers possible across the country.

From local families to community groups and businesses, our city once again proved why Houston is a pillar of service and remembrance.

We’re proud to serve this community—and even more proud of everyone who came out to serve alongside us.

Gold Star Mother’s Day is observed in the United States on the last Sunday of September each year.

It is a day for people to recognize and honor those who have lost a son or daughter while serving the United States Armed Forces.

Our hearts are with our nation's Gold Star Mothers, today and always.

For those that did not make it out yesterday. Here’s a couple pictures of the flagpoles the council purchased for the cemetery so far. We agreed to purchase 60 poles. Currently have purchased and installed 32. Still working on raising the money to put the last 28 up. They do look beautiful.

Here is a way to honor two veterans at once. Order one for a veteran you know to be placed on their front door and one for a veteran laid to rest at the Houston National cemetery. See first comment to follow QRcode to order. Thank you.

Twice the honor.

When you sponsor a Patriot Pair, one wreath will be placed on a veteran's headstone at a participation WAA location this December, and a second wreath will be sent to the address of your choice to be displayed as you choose.

It is a great option if you're looking to participate on National Wreaths Across America Day and remember the service of a veteran in your family, honor the sacrifice of a military family you know, or teach others about the Wreaths Across America mission at a business or at home.

Thanks to all that came out yesterday to the Houston National Cemetery for the “Day of Service” in honor of 9/11. The JustServe organization did I wonderful job organizing this. From where I was it look like the entire cemetery was covered with volunteers cleaning up the grounds and the headstones. Thank you all again. Here are a few pictures of the ceremony and some of our members out working.
