The Allice Collective for Mental Health & Community Engagement Building connection. Strengthening wellness. Helping Black communities thrive. šŸ™ŒšŸ½

05/05/2026

On April 23rd, we came together in community.

We honored six phenomenal leaders who are using their talents and skills to uplift, educate, and support our communities. Leaders who understand that the road to healing is not one route, and there are many paths available to support our diverse needs. Leaders who believe that when we come together in the spirit of community, with different skillsets, mutual respect, and shared goals, our communities have access to resources that meet their specific needs.

We highlighted the importance of accessibility and representation in mental health. The importance of connectedness and safe community spaces. And the understanding that everything in life impacts mental well-being—our physical health, our families, our social connections, our work, our schools, and the systems we navigate.

We also enjoyed just being. We looked good, we felt good, and it didn’t feel performative. It felt like being in a room where everyone was genuinely rooting for and celebrating each other.

We will share more, but photos and videos can’t fully capture the feeling of being in a space full of people who are truly invested in the success of our communities.

To our amazing honorees, Dr. Joy Malbrough, Megan Wilburn, Felicia Young, Carleigh Joseph, LMSW, Deborah Mouton, and Kyle Maronie—there are no words that feel adequate to describe the impact you are making, so we will simply say THANK YOU.

To —thank you for bringing your energy and presence to make the evening both enjoyable and meaningful.

The ALLICE Collective does not take any support for granted, and we are grateful to everyone who donated, attended, and made this a truly special evening.

šŸ¦ž Some of the best conversations happen over a tray of crawfish!

Introducing our Social Experience 2026: The HeART of Community honoree: Dr. Joy J. Malbrough, PhD, LMSW.

A Louisiana native and seasoned leader with more than two decades of experience, Dr. Malbrough has dedicated her life to improving health outcomes and making sure every community has a seat at the table. Her expertise spans healthcare, strategic planning, organizational development, and leadership — and she brings all of it to bear in service of others.

Dr. Malbrough is a passionate advocate for equitable access to care, with a particular focus on clinical research education and ensuring representative participation in trials. She understands that who is in the room matters — and she has spent her career making sure the right people are included.

Her civic leadership is equally remarkable. As a Charter Member and current President of the NCBW Houston Metropolitan Chapter (National Coalition of 100 Black Women), she has been instrumental in building the chapter’s foundation from the ground up and driving its continued growth. Her influence extends beyond Houston — Dr. Malbrough has helped shape the national policy agenda as a member of the NCBW National Health Committee, advocating for policies that address the non-medical drivers of health and strengthen communities from the inside out.

Through her program development work, she has created sustainable pathways for community health and empowerment — building partnerships, developing leaders, and strengthening local systems that uplift people long after she’s left the room.
And beyond all of it? She is guided by her faith, shows up for her community with a servant’s heart, cheers loudly for her favorite teams šŸˆ, and has a soft spot for rescued dogs. 🐾

We are beyond honored to kick off this series with such an extraordinary woman. Watch her full interview above and get to know Dr. Malbrough for yourself. ✨

Her career spans impactful roles at Family Scholar House, Metro United Way, and Louisville Metro Government, where she has led program development, volunteer mobilization, and strategic community partnerships that uplift families and advance equitable opportunity.

At Family Scholar House, Felicia has played a pivotal role in expanding the organization’s mental‑health focus, championing trauma‑informed practices and holistic supports that honor the lived experiences of single‑parent college students. Her leadership reflects a deep belief that mental well‑being is foundational to academic success, economic mobility, and generational change—an approach that continues to shape the organization’s wraparound service model.

Felicia’s commitment to equity, parent leadership, and youth development is evident throughout her career. She has helped build a large‑scale out‑of‑school‑time quality system, organized city‑wide education summits to empower parents as advocates, and earned certifications in quality instructional coaching, community health work, and financial coaching. Her work embodies a holistic, community‑centered approach to empowering families and creating pathways to long‑term stability.
