On May 20, 1734, Slovenian Anton Janša, the pioneer of beekeeping, was born. Beekeeping is taken so seriously in Slovenia that the nation’s unofficial motto is “Land of the Good Beekeepers“.
Did you know?
• The practice of beekeeping dates back at least 4,500 years.
• The average bee will make only 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime.
• Bees have jointed legs, but no knees – the term “the bee’s knees” actually means something is “excellent”.
