Intern Spotlight!

Imanol Avila is an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry while also working toward graduate-level studies in Public Health and Biomedical Informatics. His academic interests focus on the intersection of civic engagement, community health, and public policy. Through his internship with the Center for Civic & Public Policy Improvement (CCPPI), Imanol is supporting research that explores how civic participation connects to measurable health outcomes across communities. He is particularly interested in how community-driven initiatives can strengthen public health infrastructure and improve long-term well-being. He plans to pursue a career in health systems leadership, where he hopes to bridge data, policy, and community engagement to drive sustainable impact.

Check out our for the Southeast Houston Affordable Housing Initiative, highlighting the great progress made through strong partnerships expanding access to affordable housing in Greater Third Ward and OST/South Union. In one year, $14 million in land was conveyed to support the development of affordable homes for low to moderate income families.

These homes represent more than new construction. They represent opportunity, stability, and continued investment in the future of Third Ward.

Through partnerships with developers like Boynton Houston CDC, the Houston Area Urban League, Midtown Houston, and many others, we are working together to increase the supply of affordable housing for Houston families. Efforts like this demonstrate how collaboration can move initiatives from vision to reality.
