Hello everyone,
Julie and I want to thank you for your support over these past two years with Eye See Hou. It has been an incredible experience to offer FUN events for our visually impaired community. However, the time has come for us to close the nonprofit to pursue other paths. We hope to always be a light of support for those navigating sight loss. It has been a huge pleasure to meet all of you and your families, we will always be cheering you on!!

Stay tuned in to our individual social media accounts so we can continue to pass along things we find helpful during the hard days, and to be there to celebrate your wins along side of you.

Keep exploring Houston and all that it has to offer, we have included a list of other non profits here that are offering great sources of support.

An awesome GIVEAWAY for you and a friend!!!

An awesome GIVEAWAY for you and a friend!!!

*Giveaway for you & a friend! *

Hi, it’s .Owens. Part of being a is always having a ton of gear to carry, and part of being is never having a good way to transport and load it in and out.

If I’m setting up on my own, I either have to take more trips while keeping a hand free to use my white cane or risk carrying more without my cane — which is only possible if I know the area really well!

Luckily, my bandmates are great about giving me rides to and from gigs and they always help me load my gear in and out! And, my best friend and roommate, helps out a lot, too.

As a blind man, I often have to rely on others so it’s important to surround myself with people I trust and who lift me up!

For blindness awareness month ( ) join me in giving a shout out to the person you rely on most & you and your friend will have the chance to win an Blindness is a Spectrum flat bill hat. 🙌🏻

HOW: 3 easy steps!

1. Like this post.

2. Follow all 3 accounts: & .Owens

3. Leave a comment that says and tag your friend. (1 tag per comment, unlimited entries)

Drawing will take place on Friday, October 27th at 4pm ET. Must live in the US to enter. Winners will be notified via DM and tagged in the post. This giveaway is not affiliated with Instagram. Must enter on Instagram.

Image description for : picture shows my typical drum setup for gigs — a cymbal, crash, hi hat, snare & 3 toms. Also pictured is a black EyeSwear Apparel hat with white text that reads, Blindness is a spectrum. The next line is in simulated UEB braille that reads: But, ignorance is opaque. A headline reads Giveaway

(Note: Two hats will be given away but the drums are not part of giveaway.)

October is Blindness Awareness Month. 👁️

It’s only 11% of the population that is completely blind. The rest of the community is able to make out shapes, shadows, faces, lights, computer screens. Regardless of what we are able to see or not see we are living beautiful and incredible lives!

Keep learning more about Blindness this month to educate yourself and family.

Photo descriptions for one photo of a pumpkin under a bridge first slide reads 1) Happy National Blindness Awareness Month did you know…. 2) Blindness is a spectrum. 85-89% of the blind community can still see something. 3) That blind people live incredible and amazing lives!!

Do you know how to spot vision loss? Teachers and parents should know how to spot the signs of vision impairment in school or at home. Symptoms often include squinting, fatigue and frequent headaches.

Regular eye exams can help identify the causes of vision impairment early, and early detection gives your child the best chance for success in school and beyond!

When using a white cane you have many tips to choose from. I started out with a marshmallow tip and have transferred to the ball tip.

Enjoying the switch up. It makes walking down broken sidewalks and cracks on streets much easier and safer for me to navigate.

How cool is it that there are so many options for independence as a Blind person? We can decide what works best for us with no explanation needed.

Let’s spread that across our friends and families, everyone has their own choice.

Video description for images of white mobility cane with the marshmallow tip and white ball rolling tip and video of seeing these two different tips on the street. The marshmallow gets stuck in a crack in the road and the ball rolls directly over it.

Hey everyone!
I’ve been running a virtual “Name Your Cane” Happy Hour once a month for white cane users around the globe and we got space if you want to join us this month! It’s Thursday June 22nd 6-7pm cst.

Naming my cane has been a way for me to empower my experience and make it even more personal. It’s a great group to find connection on this tricky blind journey. We laugh a lot and talk about the good days and hard ones and life with a cane.

I’d love for you to come name your cane or share your canes name with us!

Most of you know my canes name is and she has given me the independence I never thought I would have again. I’m so grateful and love cheering others on to pick up their cane and find Freedom again!

Best way to reach me if you want to join our June Happy Hour is email [email protected] or DM on Instagram
