Proud mom post ahead. ❤️🐾
Over the last few weeks, my daughter has been trapping cats at a property in her neighborhood where animals have been living in heartbreaking conditions. She knew there were dogs on the property, but it wasn't until a neighbor contacted her that she learned two of them had been turned loose because their owner could no longer afford to feed them. (First pic)
The dogs were frightened and wouldn't allow anyone near them. For several days, she and a neighbor tried to gain their trust, but it became clear that something more would need to be done. Refusing to give up, she grabbed a snare pole we had and successfully caught the older male dog. A rescue friend then loaned her a large dog trap so she could safely catch the female.
As if things weren't heartbreaking enough, another neighbor discovered a third dog still inside the house, trapped in a kennel with inches of f***s beneath him and no food or water. He was covered in sores and wounds from being forced to lie in his own filth. (Second pic) While helping that dog, they discovered there was actually a fourth dog—a puppy running loose inside the home who looked just like the older male. (Third pic)
A plan was made, traps were set, and after several long days of effort, all four dogs were finally brought to safety. The female was trapped first, and today the puppy was caught, completing the rescue.
Every one of these dogs was covered in fleas and desperately needed help. Thankfully, my daughter's friend Melissa stepped up in a huge way. Melissa has been helping care for the dogs, feeding them, letting them out, and providing a safe place for them to stay—even while working long 12-hour shifts as a nurse.
What makes me so proud is that my daughter never says, "That's not my rescue" or "That's not my responsibility." She helps run our cat rescue, but her compassion doesn't stop with cats. If an animal is suffering, she will do everything she can to help.
Rescue work isn't glamorous. It's dirty, exhausting, emotional, and often happens behind the scenes. It means spending your free time setting traps, making plans, answering calls, and refusing to look away when an animal needs help.
These four dogs are safe tonight because a handful of people cared enough to step in. I couldn't be prouder of my daughter, Melissa, and everyone who helped give these dogs a second chance.
Sometimes one person deciding to help can change an animal's entire life. ❤️
