Understanding the hunting environment is the next vital piece the 8 SOF veterans will learn this week For them fieldcraft is a familiar skill set, using it to find and take a wild animal is not. Our goal this next week is to shorten that learning curve as much as possible in a week. This will give them an understanding of an animal's “why” and how to get the edge up in the pursuit to provide clean meat to their families.

Understanding your way around the woods and why it matters to the big game that will be pursued is just as important as knowing your equipment.

In the coming days when the Nodens recipients arrive they will be taught everything about archery. How to tune, how to maintain, and how to perfect their equipment and become familiar with the entire bow.

The equipment is a key focus to becoming a proficient hunter. Learning everything about this bow will be a skill relatable to their time as SOF members and help soften the transition into this new adventure!

Freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint.

Freedom is the absence of subjection to foreign domination or despotic government.

Freedom is the state of being physically unrestricted and able to move easily.

Freedom is the power of self-determination attributed to the will; the quality of being independent of fate or necessity.

Freedom is us creating purposeful lifestyles and ensuring generations to come to have the same ability.

Why Nodens? What exactly does it do?

The Nodens Outdoors program is unique but simple. Return transitioning SOF veterans to a natural state within nature through bowhunting. Over a nine-month core program, the staff provides the equipment, knowledge, and experience to add bowhunting as a lifestyle.

Bowhunting allows these individuals the ability to utilize their skills gained in Special Operations in the outdoors. The carry-over is powerfully similar and the recipients learn how to rely on the wild natural world to exercise the primal instinct of providing natural food to their families through hunting. The use of human performance sensors during the program has shown that this model works tremendously to improve quality of life and physiological markers key to the military to civilian transition.

But most importantly this program gives the recipient a new team, a team who’s in the same transition…a Tribe… and when they “graduate” the core program they move on to the advanced alumni hunts, and their families are invited on the same path they went through.

A tool is defined as a device, especially one held in the hand, used to carry out a particular function or pursuit.

Archery is that “tool” for our recipients that will usher in that pursuit of something different than the norm.

Archery restores a natural balance, something primal, a pursuit of a skill that is both challenging and rewarding.

FATHER’S DAY. A Father is the centerpiece of the community, a Father charts the path, and a Father is a teacher and leader. Most importantly a Father ensures the Family will endure, and that has never been more important.

Nodens Outdoors believes in teaching a lifestyle and developing a skill that will impact generational change. If you equip a Father you equip a Family and community.

Archery requires a focus that can be used to calm the mind, slow things down, and momentarily escape the grind.

Working on the mechanics, shot ex*****on, and listening to the repeated thud of your arrow hit the bag is as satisfying as any task.

We encourage you to get in the mountains, woods, backyard, archery course or whatever available range you have this weekend and let sending arrows do what it does for you!

The backcountry teaches many lessons, teaches you how to slow down, reconnect with who you are, embrace difficulty and challenges from an aspect of growth and positivity.

Being in the elements restores balance and returns you to the most natural state of being.
