As a big buddy an older swimmer will be paired with a little buddy (8 and under or a new swimmer to the team) to mentor.
Expectations of a big buddy:
Help your buddy at their first meet and offer encouragement.
Show your buddy where to go if they aren't sure.
Write down their events and go cheer for them if you can.
You may not be able to watch their races due to your own race schedule, but make it a point to ask them how their swim was.
With their parent permission-- help them write their event times on their arm.
You may give your buddy a little treat. Some ideas: a small snack, Stars themed items that can be found at the dollar store this time of year, a sports drink, etc. (ask about food allergies first)
⭐️ You are not required or expected to buy gifts or spend money. Buddies are allowed to, but keep any gifts to a small dollar amount please!
⭐️ Since we know some older swimmers are not interested in being big buddies, they will not be automatically assigned.
⭐️ If your swimmer wants to be a big buddy, please sign them up so we will have enough big buddies to encourage the little buddies!
