Reconstruction of a Survivor was birthed from a survivor's need for support through her own journey of breast cancer twenty years ago. The search to find people with similar needs emotionally, physically and spiritually. This longing led her to begin helping others on a one-one-one basis. Colleague, friends, family and others began to refer people to her. It was this work that lead to the creation of Reconstruction of a Survivor. It was founded in 2007 to reach more people, have a greater impact and give survivors the opportunities to support other survivors. Reconstruction of a Survivor offers support groups for persons diagnosed with breast cancer through its partnerships with healthcare providers, churches and community centers in the greater Houston area and in Lafayette, LA. There are locations in Baytown, Pearland, Houston, Sugar Land, Texas City, Katy and League City.

💙 MEN CAN GET BREAST CANCER TOO.

Breast cancer is often associated with women, but men can be diagnosed too.

According to the American Cancer Society, in the United States in 2026:

🔹 Approximately 2,670 men will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer.
🔹 Approximately 530 men will die from breast cancer.
🔹 Fewer than 1% of breast cancers in the U.S. occur in men.
🔹 The average lifetime risk for a man is about 1 in 755.

These numbers are a reminder that breast cancer awareness matters for everyone.

Men, know your body. Pay attention to changes such as a lump or swelling, ni**le changes or discharge, or changes in the skin around the breast. If you notice something unusual, talk with a healthcare professional.

💙 Awareness matters. Early detection matters. Men matter too.

🎀 Happy Breast Cancer Awareness Month! 🎀

Breast cancer has many faces and affects people of many ages. This month, we honor the survivors, remember those we’ve lost, support those currently fighting, and encourage everyone to be proactive about their breast health.

Early detection can save lives.

Know your baseline.
Be familiar with what’s normal for your breasts and report changes to a healthcare professional.
Perform regular self-checks so you recognize changes.
Keep up with recommended mammograms and screenings based on your age and individual risk.
And most importantly, advocate for yourself and those around you.

A simple conversation or reminder could encourage someone you love to schedule the screening they’ve been putting off.

The numbers don’t lie, but behind every number is a woman, a family, and a story.
In 2025, an estimated 316,950 women in the United States and 22,039 women in Texas were expected to be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer.

The latest available data also show that approximately 2.4 million women are diagnosed worldwide, while Harris County averages 2,869 diagnoses each year.
And every 13 seconds, another woman somewhere in the world hears the words, “You have breast cancer.”
These are more than statistics. They are mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, coworkers, and members of our community. Awareness matters. Screening matters. Access to timely, quality care matters.

Know your risk. Pay attention to changes in your body. Speak with a healthcare professional about the screening schedule that is right for you, and encourage someone you love to do the same.
Together, we can turn awareness into action. 💕
