Big news for Texas Veterans looking to buy a home!

Commissioner Buckingham announced today that the VLB has approved an increase for the VLB home loan amount from $806,500 to $832,750, an increase of $26,250!

The Texas Veterans Land Board has approved an increase to its home loan limit for eligible Texas veterans and military members.

Texas Land Commissioner and VLB Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham announced the maximum loan amount has increased from $806,500 to $832,750.

“I am thrilled to continually expand opportunities for Texas veterans who desire to own a home in the great state of Texas,” Buckingham said. “As Texas VLB Chairwoman, I will continue to lead the VLB as we help deliver the promise of the American Dream to our veterans and their families because owning their own home is incredibly special.”

Two Southeast Texas veterans were honored through a new program launched by VFW Auxiliary 4820 in Port Neches, aimed at ensuring veterans living in retirement facilities or who are homebound are not forgotten.

The Veterans Forever Remembered Adoption Program officially began Jan. 1, 2026, with the auxiliary adopting four veterans in the community. The program focuses on recognizing veterans on special occasions such as birthdays, holidays and other meaningful days throughout the year, according to a news release from the organization.

The VFW Auxiliary 4820 in Port Neches launched the Veterans Forever Remembered Adoption Program to honor veterans in retirement facilities.

U.S. military service members anticipate increases to their pay and allowances in 2026, including a 3.8% raise in basic pay and an average 4.2% bump in Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) rates, varying by location and other factors. Meanwhile, veterans, retirees and survivors receive a 2.8% increase to their benefits in 2026, based on the Social Security Administration's annual Cost-of-Living Adjustment, or COLA.

Today, on this the 81st anniversary of the attack upon the United States at Pearl Harbor, we honor the memories of the 2,403 American lives which were lost that fateful day.
