AFSCME was born in the depths of the Great Depression on a simple but powerful idea: that a professional civil service is essential to a strong democracy. This idea continues to be at the heart of AFSCME’s mission today as we fight for fairness in the workplace, excellence in public service, and stability and opportunity for all working families. This Juneteenth, we honor the power of Black liberation and the enduring fight for real equity. Civil rights and organized labor have always gone hand-in hand. True liberation is a fight we win together, and AFSCME members build that solidarity everyday.

Harris County Workers Union celebrates the resilience, culture, and brilliance of Black workers everywhere. Happy Juneteenth!
