This building was just listed on the National Register of Historic places on April 13, 2026. This photo was taken after 1960 when the wooden windows and door frames were replaced with metal and prior to the adding of the rail on the balcony and after 11/11/1969, when the plaque was added dedicating the flag pole to Leopold Blume. The building has just been restored since receiving severe damage from Hurricane Ida. We will be having a ribbon cutting/Open House where the public is invited to see the inside on July 15, 2026, at 4 pm. We have been searching for photos of the building prior to 1960. This is the closest we have found. Note the sign hanging over the street.
Inside this building houses artifacts celebrating people who served the community of Houma and contributed to the development and growth of Terrebonne Parish. On July 16, 2026, we will host a Lady Elks Memorial Brunch honoring the Lady Elks and unveiling the memorial wall we are dedicating to their contribution to the community. On July 17, 2026, we are hosting a Past Exalted Rulers Lunch where we unveil the wall honoring the Past Exalted Rulers and the accomplishments of the lodge over the past 115 years. Perhaps the most notable historic display are our memorable plaques which list the names of all of the Elks who have passed and who have served our community. We will unveil this wall of honor at our Gala on July 18, 2026.
