We will be closely following and advocating for the following bills, which we will be referring to as the 𝙈𝙚𝙣𝙝𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙣 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙮 𝘿𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙍𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝘽𝙮 𝙇𝙤𝙪𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙖 𝙋𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙖𝙜𝙚.
🌎 𝗦𝗖𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘-𝗕𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗗 𝗕𝗨𝗙𝗙𝗘𝗥 𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗟:
HB 855 (Rep. Joseph Orgeron) — We support re-drawing the buffer line where the science says it belongs, to drastically reduce industry bycatch.
⚖️ 𝗔𝗖𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗦:
HB 757 (Rep. Vincent Cox) — Real penalties for buffer zone violations. First offense: $50,000. Fourth offense: $250,000 and permanent license revocation. 🏦
HB 872 (Rep. Jerome Zeringue) — AIS tracking required on every commercial menhaden vessel. Every boat. Every trip. No exceptions.📍
HB 886 (Rep. Joseph Orgeron) — Louisiana’s coastal waters are a public resource. The industry’s harvest data should be public too. 📈
SB 186 (Sen. Mike Fesi) — Every other menhaden-producing state has harvest limits. It’s time Louisiana does too. 📊
We want to thank Reps. Vincent Cox, Jerome Zeringue, and Joseph Orgeron, along with Senator Big Mike Fési for stepping up and championing Louisiana’s coast. These legislators are doing right by Louisiana — and we greatly appreciate their support!
