📣 SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT 📣

On this day January 28, 1983 some 41 years ago the Houma Fire Department suffered a line of duty death. Crews were working a structure fire at the time of the incident.

Houma Fire Department had been notified of a house fire on Connely Street located in the East Park neighborhood of Houma. Captain Ernest 'Joe' Bergeron was on duty that day at the East Park Fire Station and was the Captain in charge of the first crew to arrive on scene. During the fire, Captain Bergeron collapsed from some type of medical emergency.

Captain Bergeron was rendered first aid by other firefighters and an ambulance was called in. Sadly Captain Bergeron did not recover from his ailment and passed away.

Captain Bergeron was a 20 year veteran of the fire service and is remembering as a wonderful guy to work with.

Today we remember and appreciate the service and sacrifice of Fire Captain Ernest 'Joe' Bergeron and his family.
