For his Eagle Scout service project this weekend, Jamis H. led a team of scouts and scouters from Sagamore Council Troop 335 to rebuild decking and extend stairs to the canoe launch at Peter's Mill Landing for the NICHES Land Trust. Their work will improve recreational access to the Wildcat Creek and help to combat erosion. 🦅

A small but mighty crew from Troop 335 returned from their trek to Isle Royale. Some highlights were:

-Warm up hike at Lake of the Clouds in the Porcupine Mountains
-Seaplane!
-Moose crashing across the trail during a water break near Mt. Obijway
-Blueberries and thimbleberries along the Greenstone Ridge
-Jumping off the dock at Daisy Farm into chilly Lake Superior after a long day of hiking
-Going down into the ruins of the Minong copper mine
-Victory pizza after completing conservation hours and 50-miler after Scoville Point
-Honorable mentions: shelter graffiti, cheese water, appropriate width, ear-ticks, fox!!, trail puppies, make-it-fit, scary berries, and the children yearn for the mines.

Our 2025 Philmont Crew 626-G safely made it home from their 12-day trek last night. Some highlights of the trip:

-Over 2400 miles traveled via bus and train roundtrip from West Lafayette to Chicago to Raton, NM, to Philmont.

-According to map and smart watches, backpacked 54 miles and walked an additional 24 miles for a total of 78 miles on foot in 11 days on the trail. This was trek itinerary 12-8.

-Summited Baldy Mountain (12,441-feet) via the shorter but steeper route. If you know, you know.

-As a Crew, earned the Duty to God award, Wilderness Pledge Achievement, and the Philmont Arrowhead patch. We all made it! The Crew has a couple hours left of conservation work to complete the 50 Miler Award as well.

-Blessed to have our own Takachsin Lodge Chief, Sam Nichols, as our ranger. Sam also hiked back to us approximately 4 miles on trail day 9 to deliver a pizza from base camp. What a great servant leader!

Thankful for the great memories made and everyone returning safely!

Scouts from Troop 335 honed their skills in communication, problem solving, leadership, team work, and overcoming obstacles as they tried to escape the “Beating the Parker’s Escape Room”. Unfortunately the Parker Brothers caught them and they WENT TO JAIL! No get out of jail free cards in this game!

Every troop has a Scoutmaster: an adult leader who is responsible for working directly with scouts, providing direction, coaching, and support. They provide youth leaders with the tools and skills they need to run the troop, and they serve as role models and mentors.

This canonical list of Troop 335 scoutmasters was produced from troop records, which had some gaps that were filled from the programs of the 50th and 65th anniversaries as well as recollections of living scouters, in particular for the 1990s and 2000s. The names of our scoutmasters from the first five years of our troop are lost to time, unfortunately.

Troop 335 owes a debt of gratitude to these men who volunteered their time in service of the development of our scouts and the leadership of our troop over the course of the last century.
