The Roadless Rule has protected millions of acres of wild public lands for 25 years. But now, it’s at risk of being repealed.
Michigan currently has roughly 16,000 acres of roadless areas within our National Forests (only 0.5% of our Forest Service land). The 2001 Roadless Rule protects these lands from new road construction, large-scale logging, and mining. 🌲🌳
When this rule was created, the U.S. Forest Service held more than 600 public meetings to hear from people across the country. Today, there are none.
So we’re hosting our own.
Join Sierra Club Michigan Chapter, Keweenaw Youth for Climate Action, Keweenaw Indivisible, and community members on June 25 at the U.J. Noblet Forestry Building in Houghton, MI from 6:30-8:30pm for a powerful evening of storytelling, community, and action.
We’re inviting attendees to share 2-3 minutes of testimony about what public lands mean to them. When you register, we’ll send guidance and resources to help you prepare.
Not into public speaking? That’s okay! Come listen, learn, and be part of a community standing up for our forests.
This event is for everyone who loves public lands: hikers, climbers, hunters, paddlers, wildlife lovers, and more.
Space is limited, so reserve your spot today! Check the comments for registration info. ⬇👀
