New Guide Alert 🚨 "Climate Change Considerations for Forest Operations in Northern Forests" is a new guide that was developed to identify practices for adapting forest operations to climate change. This guide provides an in-depth overview of climate changes and how they can impact forest operations, considerations for incorporating climate change into operations planning, and practices to reduce or avoid climate-related risks when timber harvesting.

This guide is joint product of the USDA Forest Service Eastern Region State, Private, and Tribal Forestry, the USDA Northern Forests Climate Hub, and NIACS. It is currently published as a USDA Forest Service Northern Research Station General Technical Report Postprint on the USDA Northern Forests Climate Hub website.

Read the guide:

Climate change is altering current weather patterns and may complicate forest operations. This guide was developed to identify practices for adapting forest operations to climate change. Key topics discussed include climate change impacts on operations in northern forests, considerations for plannin...

Last week our team members Mattison Brady and Samantha Myers presented at the The Forest Ecosystem Monitoring Cooperative Annual Conference. They were part of a collaborative panel on new climate projections with a focus on extreme precipitation in the Northeast. The panel consisted of a combination of discussion and shorter presentations providing overviews of climate projections and a systems view of climate change, shifting precipitation regimes, and impacts on forests. Along with Mattison and Sam, the panel consisted of Lesley-Ann Dupigny-Giroux (Vermont State Climatologist), Ali Kosiba (University of Vermont), and Jonathan Winter (Dartmouth).

Last week was our in-person staff retreat. It was so nice to connect as a team because many of us hadn't seen each other for months, and some of us hadn’t even met in real life before last week! Our week was packed with trainings (thank you to Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission (GLIFWC) and University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension), a field tour and bird watching (thank you to the Aldo Leopold Foundation), team-building activities, discussing partnership priorities and goals, and strategizing how to best serve the diverse needs of our partners and audiences.

Happy to see these faces!
