Haven't posted and made an update on the rescue this past year...so I figured I would make a post and show off all the beautiful dogs that have come into Dixies foster house this past year!
January 2020 I brought in 3 feral puppies. They were strays caught in Tuscola County by Tuscola County animal control. They were beginning to shut down in the shelter and a friend reached out to me to take them in, so of course I did! Teddy, Freddy and Blondie♡ The two boys were extremely fearful to the point they couldn't even be walked on a leash...Blonde was a little less fearful. After a few months with me Blondie went into a prison dog training program and was adopted by a lovely family from Ohio. In April 2020 I officially foster failed Teddy and Freddy and made their adoption official! They fit in great with my pack♡
In May/June I did a 2 month temporary foster for a beautifulllll bull terrier named Peach. She had been adopted through a rescue, but didn't get along with their other female dog. After about 2 months with me the rescue I fostered through found a bull terrier breed specific rescue to take her in to find her a home with people experienced with the breed.
In July I started looking for 2 dogs to foster since the cabin was empty... and I found a rescue down by Detroit that dealt with a lot of Detroit strays and ferals. Thats where Merle and Waylon came from. Merle had pretty severe flea dermatitis and Waylon had a bad hot spot on his tail...more than likely caused by fleas. After a good scrub down and medication the boys were flea free and transported from the big city in to small town Houghton lake. Both boys are seniors, Merle has some spine injury and Waylon was lymes positive. Thankfully both were heartworm negative surprisingly. After about a month of medicated baths and a good healthy diet and supplements...Merles hair has grown back and he no longer moans when laying down. Waylon was treated for his lymes. Both are healthy happy boys now!
Hopefully in the next year or two another cabin will be built and more dogs saved!
