The Black Hills Soaring Club is a private glider club, operating out of the Hot Springs airport (HSR). The club owns and operates a Pawnee tow ship, leases a Schweizer 2-33 sailplane for training, and has several member-owned sailplanes. The club membership includes several FAA certificated instructors, a FAA designated pilot examiner, and pilots with certificates from student to the commercial le
vel. The club welcomes new members -- we think you'll find that this is a great way to be introduced to aviation, or expand your aviation experiences. Fun! Above all else, soaring is great fun! Challenge! Soaring is a sport in which you are constantly being challenged. Pursue your own goals. You can push yourself for you own personal growth, or you can compete for state, national, or world records. And, yes, they are attainable for average people! Camaraderie. Soaring is both an individual and team sport. A flight can't happen without the help and support of tow pilots and ground crew. FREE Flight Instruction. That's right - the club's instructors donate their time to train soaring students. Students only pay for the cost of the flight (glider rental and tow fees). Instruction toward any glider rating. Sport, private, commercial, or flight instructor. BHSC can provide flight instruction and your check ride. A large part of the mission of the Black Hills Soaring Club is to promote the sport of soaring. Part of that mission is accomplished by providing guest/introductory rides to the general public. If you are interested in aviation, interested in soaring, or need a unique gift for family or friends, please give us a call. Rides will be given by a pilot who holds at least a FAA commercial glider pilot certificate. Your pilot will tailor the ride for you, and will do everything possible to make sure you get the most out of your flight. IMPORTANT - BHSC is a club, not a commercial operation. What does that mean to you? Flights are only available when the club members have decided to fly. We do not have business hours, staff, or even an office, so you cannot simply show up at the airport and expect to buy a ticket. Guest rides must be arranged in advance by contacting one of the club members.
