Join us on Tuesday, June 19th at St Luke's Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall, 5 - 6 pm.
DARLA THURBER, chief diversity officer at the National Park College. Darla will be our program presenter.
Most of you probably saw the newspaper article earlier this month by Beth Reed, education reporter for the Sentinel-Record, NPC NAMED ONE OF 18 "MOST PROMISING." The story reported that "National Park College was recognized as one of 18 Most Promising Places to work in Community Colleges to Work in Community Colleges … ."
The award is presented annually to community colleges and technical colleges "who show a commitment to diversity through best-in-class student and staff recruitment and retention practices, inclusive learning and working environments, and meaningful community service and engagement opportunities." NPC was one of eight applicants that had a perfect score.
Darla will share what they are doing to earn this award. NPC has a Diversity Club and perhaps we'll be able to discuss getting together on community service opportunities. Below is more about Darla.
Darla Thurber has served as Special Assistant to the President since 2014 and added the role of Chief Diversity Officer in 2017 at National Park College. And, as recently as last week, she was appointed Interim Vice President of External Affairs for the College. She has worked in higher education for over 19 years. A native of Hot Springs, she completed her Associate of Arts degree at National Park College and her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Arkansas. Darla has taught customer service and telephone etiquette classes, and has presented on various topics including continuous process improvement, thriving in the workplace, and job crafting. She is married to Ray and has a seven-year-old son, Marshall. Darla enjoys fishing and camping on Lake Ouachita with her family.
See you at the meeting. This will be a great meeting to bring guests.
