CPW Commission has scheduled a hearing on the Petition, supported by PDC, to ban recreational prairie dog shooting on public lands. The meeting is Sept. 2-3 in LaJunta, Colo.

The fundamental question is simple: What do we want our public lands to accomplish?

Do we want public grasslands managed to sustain healthy wildlife populations and functioning ecosystems—or do we want to continue allowing a declining keystone species to be killed for recreation on lands held for all Coloradoans? We believe Colorado should choose conservation.

Today is National Dog Day! Prairie dogs aren’t actually dogs but they are still worth celebrating. They are part of the squirrel family. They got their name because people thought their alert calls sounded like a dog’s bark.

Poisoned, trapped, killed for contests - over half a million coyotes are killed every year in the U.S. Like prairie dogs, coyotes are a misunderstood, native North American species.

Coyotes are very often seen hunting prairie dogs (sometimes even with an American badger). They help keep prairie dog, rabbit, and mice populations in check.

Again, similar to prairie dogs, there are ways to minimize conflict rather than defaulting to lethal control.

Would you answer??? It might take a while for you to understand what they are saying since prairie dogs have one of the most sophisticated languages in the animal kingdom!
