This week, we’re shining the spotlight on someone who helps us capture the why behind what we do at ABLE Bridges.

Meet Anthony James Smith, owner of Earthshine Photography, and our incredible volunteer photographer!

Anthony generously donates his time and talent to ABLE Bridges, photographing our Community Accessibility Toolkit deliveries completely free of charge. And we truly couldn’t ask for anyone better to capture these moments.

He has a special gift for taking photographs that show more than just a person receiving a toolkit. He captures the excitement, curiosity, smiles, and pure joy as individuals living with special needs discover the things inside their toolkit that were chosen specifically for them.

Those moments are priceless, and Anthony somehow manages to make every single photograph look absolutely amazing.

Because of him, we’re able to share these beautiful moments with our community, our supporters, and the families we serve.

With the school year now in session, don’t forget that you are your child’s number one advocate! The IEP is there for a reason. Become familiar with it. Understand that if the IEP says it is necessary, your child has the right to it, and needs your support if they are not receiving it. If you need help with your child’s IEP being properly implemented, we can help you get in touch with people who will help you. Let’s have a great school year!

Our volunteers recently had the privilege of delivering Community Accessibility Toolkits to two brothers, and today it’s 2nd brother’s turn in the spotlight!

We love seeing the excitement that comes from receiving something chosen specifically to make life a little more accessible, comfortable, and fun!

These are the moments that remind us that what may seem like a small item to some can make a BIG difference to someone else, and that is what accessibility is all about.

The only thing better than giving out ONE Community Accessibility Toolkit… is giving out TWO! 💙💛

We had the absolute joy of delivering Community Accessibility Toolkits to two brothers, and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate them!

Today, we’re featuring one of these amazing brothers, while tomorrow we will be sharing the other toolkit.

Each toolkit is created specifically around the individual’s needs, interests, and abilities, because accessibility isn’t one-size-fits-all.

It’s about listening.
It’s about understanding.
It’s about finding the right tools to make everyday life a little easier, more comfortable, and more inclusive.

And most importantly… it’s about making sure every individual has the opportunity to participate, learn, enjoy, and thrive.

Because of your donations these brothers received more than a box of items. They received tools chosen especially for THEM. 💙💛

BECAUSE OF YOU

Because of you, community accessibility toolkits are being created, packed, and placed into the hands of individuals who need them.

Today, we want to shine a very special spotlight on one of our incredible volunteers, Lillian Glidewell!

She has single-handedly coordinated the construction of our Community Accessibility Toolkits, pouring countless, tireless hours into making sure every toolkit looks amazing! From coordinating items as they arrive to constructing the kits, she has quietly worked behind the scenes to make sure these resources reach the people who need them most.

She has never asked for recognition. She has never asked to be thanked. She simply saw a need and stepped up to fill it.

And the truth is, we could not do what we do without her.

We want her to know that we see her. We appreciate her. We value her. And we are incredibly thankful that she chose to be part of the ABLE Bridges family.

Every toolkit represents more than a collection of accessibility items. It represents someone saying, “You matter. Your needs matter. And your community sees you.”

And because of volunteers like her, we are able to keep building bridges to a more accessible community.

Thank you for everything you do. You are making a difference, one toolkit, one family, and one person at a time.

This isn’t about politics. It’s about people.

I’m asking you to join me in supporting the Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Access Act.

As the mom of a special needs son who must remain — and will always remain — in my home, this issue is deeply personal to me.

But it’s so much bigger than my family.

There are countless aging parents raising adult children with significant disabilities who are asking themselves:

“What happens to my child when I’m older?”

Many of us have spent our entire lives caring for our children, advocating for them, protecting them, and making sure they have what they need to live safely and with dignity.

We don’t want our children to lose their homes, their communities, or their quality of life simply because their parents are getting older or because adequate support isn’t available.

Home and community-based services can make the difference between a person being able to remain where they belong and a family facing impossible choices.

That’s why I’m asking you to please contact your U.S. Representative and ask them to support the Home and Community-Based Services Access Act.

You can simply say:

“I am a constituent, and I am asking you to support the Home and Community-Based Services Access Act because people with disabilities deserve the opportunity to live safely and with dignity in their homes and communities.”

This is not about Republicans or Democrats. It is not about candidates or political parties. It is about disability, dignity, choice, and the future of our loved ones.

As parents, we spend our lives planning for our children’s futures.

For those of us raising children who will need lifelong support, we need our country to help make that future possible.

Our week of fun continues, and we got a Visual Accessibility Toolkit to Hallie, and she received every item she requested!

Her toolkit included helpful items like a large-print keyboard, Braille label maker, and other accessibility tools, along with a few things simply meant to bring her joy, including an audiobook card and a plushie featuring her favorite cartoon character.

We hope these tools make her school days a little easier, more independent, and a whole lot more enjoyable. We’re so excited to see her have an amazing school year!

This is why we do what we do. Accessibility opens doors, and sometimes, it brings a little extra joy along the way. We truly believe a small group of people can make a big difference! We are rooting for you, Hallie! Thank you so much for sharing the great pics with us!!!
