Chemung County Sunrise Rotary Club

Chemung County Sunrise Rotary Club We believe in “Service above Self”. We meet Wednesday mornings at 7 am at Linny's Cinny's inside Ill Eagle in downtown Elmira. We be small but we be fierce!

No meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of the month as we usually have a social event. The 4th Wednesday we meet for dinner at 5:30. We do a lot before most people leave for work! We are an active club of about 20 people that live or work in Chemung County. Annual projects include the Pumpkin Express (October), the Road Rally (May), the penny auction at a local senior living center (December). We also fi

t in cleaning up Exit 51A on Rt I-86 three to four times a year. We have raised funds for a Barbie the Welder masterpiece entitled "The Phoenix". The metal sculpture resides in the gardens at the Arnot Falck Cancer Center in Elmira. One of our current projects is to raise the necessary funds, along with the Horseheads Rotary Club and the Horseheads Kiwanis Club, to build a permanent structure complete with electricity, water and bathrooms for the summer concert series at Teal Park in Horseheads. We meet at the Clarion Inn in Elmira on Wednesdays at 7AM, but not the second Wednesday in the month. The second Wednesday has turned into a social event in the evening. Locations and times will vary. We support local businesses that support our club for the Pumpkin Express, Road Rally etc. Rotarians from the Elmira and Horseheads Clubs have joined us when we threw axes at Denim Axe Co. (Elmira Heights), built our own burgers (Erin Town Tavern), Pints for Polio (Rekt Brewing Horseheads), and playing putt putt at Arnot Mall to support the Compeer program, a division of Family Services. Most recently we are celebrating the life of a young woman who tragically passed away. We call it "Be Like Tali: Accelerate Action" in her honor for International Women's Day. Tali Sutton was active in so many events that we wanted the community to have an outlet to celebrate her and to recognize similar women in their own lives. Proceeds for this fundraiser/donation drive will go towards Tali's employer, CareFirstNy and to other nonprofits. We recently held a get-together at CareFirstNY with prosecco and pizza, two of Tali's favorite things. Come enjoy breakfast with us (we buy your first breakfast) and see how you, too, can help your community!

Today is the International Day For Countering Hate Speech

At Chemung County Sunrise Rotary we believe that words matter. The way we speak to one another can build bridges, strengthen relationships, create understanding - or it can divide.

Edited to add pictures of the groundbreaking….

Join us tonight at 6:00 as we celebrate the groundbreaking of a new ADA accessible restroom and concession stand at Teal Park.
This exciting project has been made possible through the partnership of local service clubs, community partners, and generous supporters who believe in creating spaces everyone can enjoy.
There will be remarks from the mayor, live music, and food available for purchase.

Sometimes a moment feels full circle. Back in 1907 the first public service project undertaken by Rotary was the installation of public toilets in downtown Chicago, meeting a simple but important community need.
More than a century later we are proud to help continue filling needs.

When the Chemung County Sunrise Rotary Club celebrated our 20th anniversary in 2009, we didn’t just look back on our history, we looked ahead to the future.
As part of our Eldridge Park gateway and lion project we highlighted a few weeks back, the club brought in heavy equipment to carefully lift one of the lions and place a time capsule beneath it. Inside are Rotary memorabilia, club information, and the names and stories of the members who were serving our community at that time.
The capsule is scheduled to be opened 50 years later. Imagine the Rotarians of 2059 discovering who we were, what we cared about, and the projects that mattered to our club. Rotary isn’t just about the work we do today, it’s about creating a legacy that inspires future generations.
Somewhere beneath one of those lions a piece of our club’s story is waiting to be told.
