Councilman David Smith is organizing a volunteer effort to clean up and paint the Union Pacific caboose next to the train station/DMV office at the end of 8th Street. Because our motto is “Spruce Up Hoquiam”, HBT volunteers have been helping to clean up the grounds as well as the caboose. We are proud to help!

Thank you to Joyce and Rich Easton who donated the Musical park between the fire station and Hoquiam’s historic train station/DMV office. It is now installed for the public to enjoy.

Thanks as well to HBT volunteers Lynn Ogren and Al Gregory for painting the picnic table and fence at the base of the Rayonier tree.

It started with a hand-drawn diagram by gifted artist Jenny Fisher. And with the financial help of the HBT, Hoquiam VFW Post, and Community Foundation, the expert construction services by Todd Pierog of West Satsop Contracting, and our HBT Volunteers who freshened up the benches, cannon, fence, and flowers, we are ready for our nation’s 250th anniversary.

Come visit Chevron Veterans Memorial Park at 8th and Simpson in Hoquiam to help celebrate our 250th anniversary and to thank our service men and women!

The Hoquiam Beautification Team and the VFW are teaming up to sponsor an art installation(mural project) at the Chevron Veteran’s Park at 8th and Simpson in honor of the 250th anniversary of our nation. We are in the process of raising money to make this happen and are reaching out to see if you would be able to donate to this project. No donation is too small.

You can donate in honor of a friend or family member who was/is in the service or just because you think that this will be a positive project for our city and an improvement to the Veteran’s Park.

The plan is to install 8 panels, each 4 by 4 feet in size, along a sidewalk parallel to the side wall of the barber shop. Each panel represents a branch of the military, and will be mounted upon two 6 by 6 posts set into the sidewalk. The idea is that people can view them up close as they walk along and contemplate the sacrifice of service to our country that so many have given in the last 250 years.

Hoquiam’s great artist Jenny Fisher is hand painting each panel. Todd Pierog is doing the cement work and installation of the panels. And Push Rods is donating covers to keep the panels safe from tagging. We need your financial help to get this project to the finish line.

This art installation will be an inspiration for our community and an improvement to the park. Donations can be mailed to or taken to the city hall finance department: 609 8th Street, Hoquiam , WA 98550. Be sure to indicate on the check or verbally that the donation is for the HBT mural project.

THE PETUNIAS ARE COMING! THE PETUNIAS ARE COMING! 🥳

This coming Wednesday, May 20, we will be taking delivery of our petunias for the spring and summer season. Volunteers will be out planting them in the pots along the streets as well as in the gardens that we manage at the library, City Hall, bus station, and other locations. Be sure to honk when you drive by showing your appreciation for the hard work.

We still need a few more volunteers to help manage the pots downtown. The obligation is to water them a couple of times a week (so if you’d like to help start saving your water and milk jugs.)

We’d love you to help. Message us with questions or would like to volunteer. Great fun to involve kids and grandkids as well.

HBC volunteers will be out this week removing the tulips and bagging them to save for next year. They will also be preparing the soil in the pots for the planting of our new spring/summer flowers later this month.

Be sure to honk and wave at the volunteers as you drive by to thank them for their service to our community. And message us for info on adopting a pot.

Steve Fogo reminded me about the daffodils at Sunset Memorial Park. Go take a look before they fade away and also to see the great job the City crews do to maintain our cemetery!
