Chachita’s journey has been so beautiful to witness. 🤍

When Winston was born, she wanted very little to do with people. She was protective, guarded, and unsure if she could trust us. But Winston changed everything.

As she watched us care for him, love on him, and keep him safely by her side, she began to realize she was safe too. Little by little, her walls started to come down.

Ron asks for the first Chachita kiss, and answer is still no. 😂 And that’s perfectly okay. Trust is earned, and we’ll always meet her where she’s at. We’ll never push, rush, or force.

What matters is that she’s choosing to stay close. She’s relaxing. She’s accepting affection in her own way. And watching a donkey who once wanted nothing to do with people begin to lean into love is something we’ll never take for granted. ❤️

The best way to start your morning? A good butt scratch, of course! 🫏✨

Our volunteers give so much love, and donkeys like Zeus remind us just how much that love matters.

Zeus lives in our senior pasture, even though he is not quite a senior. He has painful front hooves and needs extra care and observation. When he arrived in February 2025, he wanted nothing to do with people. He kept his distance and made it clear he wasn’t interested in human attention.

Look at him now❤️

This is what patience, consistency, and a whole lot of love can do.

“How do you know when a pair of donkeys are bonded?”

Just look at Scarlett and Lisa Ann. ❤️

Scarlett arrived at Oscar’s Place in January 2024 terrified and completely untrusting of people. She was also pregnant, and eleven months later, she gave birth to Lisa Ann.

Today, Lisa Ann is a year and a half old and bigger than her mom, but she is still never far from Scarlett’s side. Whether they’re eating, napping, or enjoying a salt block together, these two do everything as a team.

We get asked all the time how we know when donkeys are bonded. The answer is simple: they show us every day. Donkeys form deep, lifelong relationships, especially mothers and babies. Even after weaning, that connection remains incredibly strong.

At Oscar’s Place, we do not forcefully wean. We let moms decide when they’re ready, which is usually around 1.5 to 2 years of age. But the bond doesn’t end there.

And in Scarlett’s case, that bond changed everything.

As she watched us care for Lisa Ann, and as Lisa Ann grew up trusting the humans around her, Scarlett slowly began to trust us too. She saw that we were kind to her baby, and over time, she realized she was safe.

The best part? Scarlett and Lisa Ann have a pending adoption and will be heading to their forever home very soon ❤️

If you watched yesterday’s episode of Donkey King, then you already know Pollyanna and DJ. ❤️

These two sweet seniors came to Oscar’s Place from a loving owner who could no longer care for them. They are both managing their own health issues, but they are happy, comfortable, and exactly where they belong—in our senior pasture together.

And together is the key word. These two are completely inseparable. Wherever Pollyanna goes, DJ follows. Wherever DJ goes, Pollyanna isn’t far behind.

After sharing their story yesterday, we thought you’d enjoy seeing them doing what they do best: enjoying a treat, enjoying each other’s company, and enjoying the life they deserve.

Sometimes the happiest endings look a lot like this ❤️

A quick glimpse into Farrier Fridays at Oscar’s Place

231 donkeys x 4 hooves… it’s a lot to keep up with!

We have an amazing team of farriers that get it all done.

Our staff also spends a lot of time training donkeys to stand for the farrier so when it’s their turn, they’re ready. Some still require sedation, but with consistent training, most are able to overcome that over time.
