Srivar Yerramsetti will be replacing a bridge on the Fitzpatrick trail tomorrow as his Eagle project. We'll meet at 1:00PM the Wedgewood trailhead, directly across from 71 Wedgewood Rd. The bridge is only a short way down the trail from there. Bring cordless drills and digging tools if you have them. Hope to see you there!

Congratulations to James Kayan, winner of the $2000 HALT Scholarship for 2024. James will be attending the University of Maine in Orono, where he plans to study forestry. James’ interest in forestry was strengthened when he went last summer to the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico, where he met other young men who were interested in forestry. James has many other interests besides camping and activities associated with becoming an Eagle Scout, including Art Club, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Swimming and Lifeguarding, Ultimate Frisbee, Wrestling, and even Video Games. The Board of Directors wishes James a successful collegiate career. We look forward to the time when James can advise HALT on how better to maintain our forests and fields in Hopkinton.

The Hopkinton Trails Club walk the weekend will be at HALT's Eagle Farms and Sands Conservation Area.

A reminder about our walk Sunday morning at 10. I walked it today in about an hour (we'll go much slower), and it's in good shape (after I went back this afternoon and cleared a toppled tree). Fair warning: This route is a bit longer than our usual 2 mile walks, and fairly rugged in spots. Short sections of climbing and descending, some rocky sections, but also long stretches of smooth trail. It's a gorgeous loop with lots to see and well worth the effort. I hope you can join us.

Volunteer opportunity: Part 2 of Jaideep Gone's Eagle project will involve building a second bridge at Deneen Conservation Area this Saturday, 9/22. It might be a little rainy, but at least it will be nice and cool. The lumber is already on site, so all we need to do is turn it into a bridge. We'll be starting at 9AM from the trailhead at 5 Deneen Rd. Bring the usual digging tools, cordless drills and T25 bits if you have them.

We raised & extended this crossing on the Mary Pratt Trail North at Fruit Street today.

By the way, we've been keeping track, and since the beginning of the year, nearly $6000 worth of labor has been donated by volunteers working with the Trails Club. Going back to 2021, the total is more than $24,000! And that doesn't include the small, unrecorded efforts that go on all the time (clearing tree limbs, picking up litter, etc.). Many thanks to all who lend a hand on the trails.
