Thursday March 19, 2026. Here’s a photo from earlier today at the Fairgrounds. It seems like other local Nordic Ski venues are posting ”end of season” notes. So maybe we should do the same. We had a good season at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds. We lost our snow for a couple weeks in January. But it came back and stayed through the end. We hope you got plenty of skiing in while the snow lasted. We had a few stray snowflakes floating in the air today. Just enough to remind and reminisce about the winter of ‘25-‘26. Many thanks to the Blackwater Nordic Board members - and other volunteers - for making it happen!!

Friday 3/6/26 Coach Rothe was out grooming the new snow at the Fairhrounds this morning. He reports everything rolled and groomed and new classic tracks set. and that conditions are primo. for now.

Thur 3/5/26 fairgrounds trails - the front half - got a quick grooming early this AM. the forecast says more snow coming tonight followed by a cold Friday then very warm temps coming in on the weekend. It’s hard to say how long the skiing will last. Groomer Jason’s forecast is that we have 5 good nordic ski mornings left. Maybe not all in a row. Ski it while we’ve got it!

Wed 3/4/26. Fairgrounds trails were rolled and groomed this AM. Coach Rothe got out there to process the new snow so our Nordic Hawks and everyone else can continue the ski season. Of course it’s March now so how long it will last is anyone’s guess. Warm days. Cold days. Melting snow and changing conditions are on the way. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Sunday 3/1/26 Fairgrounds trails were groomed this AM. Coach Rothe gave all the skate lanes a thorough once over. A few fresh snowflakes fell into the mix while he was out smoothing things out this AM. He reports that classic tracks were not reset so they're getting a bit old and will likely be icy in many spots. But overall conditions are pretty good. Of course we're now into March and the freeze/thaw cycles of late winter so conditions will be variable due to the strong sun and other factors. The good nordic news is that we've still got snow!! Enjoy it while it lasts!

Sat 2/28/26. Fairgrounds Trails will Close at 12noon on Saturday due to the VERY WARM temps. Please ski in the AM. We anticipate the snow will be VERY SOFT which means any ski activities will leave big deep ruts. Then followed by a DEEP FREEZE means that ruts will get frozen in place and be very challenging to groom out. So we‘d like to minimize the possible damage. Thanks for your understanding. /the grooming team/

Friday 2/27/26 Fairgrounds trails were groomed this morning. Skate lanes in very good shape. Existing classic tracks mostly ok but for along the tree line in the “back 40” area. Very melted along there from the strong afternoon sun. Some new classic tracks set along the light pole line and the pine trees in the front half. Early and mid-day skiing will be best. Warm afternoon temps will make for soft slow conditions later in the day. Daily Temps will fluctuate a LOT as we enter March and transition to Maple Syrup season.

Wed 2/25/26 After the morning snow the Fairgrounds trails got a quick grooming to pack down the 1” or so of fresh new stuff. Nature keeps sharing her winter bounty with us and we hope you’re taking enjoying every bit of it. Classic tracks are still quite good though they got a bit of blow-in yesterday. The photo below is from mid-way through the grooming activities about 11AM. Looks lovely, doesn’t it?

02/24/2026

Tuesday 2/24/26 Groomed and ready for skiing. Fairgrounds trails got a very thorough grooming today and fresh classic tracks were set. Conditions are good but still a bit soft from all the recent fresh snow. That’s NOT a complaint - we’re very glad to have the snow. There’s some blowing snow today that is slowly covering some of the freshly groomed tracks so conditions are a bit variable. We’ll groom the skate lanes again tomorrow to smooth it out. Enjoy your day!! /groomer sasquatch/

02/22/2026

Sunday 2/22/26 Fairgrounds trails all got an initial rolling this AM to flatten out the new snow from Fri night-Sat AM. If you head out to ski please expect very soft conditions. With temps up near 32 now we may postpone the next step - grooming. AND more snow is on the way tonight into Monday. And a final note - a reminder/request that our groomed trails at the Fairgrounds are for nordic skiing only. No snowshoes. No walking up the hills to sled down on toboggan. Thank you.
