🌿 TOP SUMMER GARDENING TIPS FOR CHRISTIAN COUNTY (Zone 6b–7a) 🌿
Summer is one of the most rewarding times in the garden, but it can also be one of the most challenging. Keep your flowers, vegetables, and landscapes thriving with these Master Gardener-approved tips:
💧 Water deeply, not frequently. Aim for about 1 inch of water per week and water early in the morning to reduce evaporation and disease.
🌾 Mulch is your best friend. Add 2–3 inches of mulch around plants to conserve moisture, suppress weeds, and keep roots cool.
🍅 Harvest often. Picking vegetables regularly encourages many plants, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, and squash, to continue producing.
🌸 Deadhead spent blooms. Removing faded flowers helps many annuals and perennials put their energy into producing more blooms instead of seeds.
🐝 Support pollinators. Leave some flowers blooming throughout the season and avoid spraying pesticides when bees and butterflies are active.
🌱 Keep an eye out for pests and diseases. Check plants regularly so problems can be identified and addressed before they become severe.
☀️ Protect yourself, too! Wear a hat, sunscreen, and stay hydrated while working outdoors.
Remember, gardening is a journey, not a destination. Celebrate the successes, learn from the challenges, and enjoy the beauty that summer brings to your landscape.
