Founded in Richmond in 1900 as an orphanage, Shineforth has continually evolved to meet the changing needs of children and families in our community. Today, the organization provides a comprehensive network of support through foster care and adoption services, residential mental health treatment, and Charterhouse School, which offers specialized education for residential and day students.
John Randolph Foundation was proud to award Shineforth a $10,000 grant to strengthen its technology and cosmetology programs through updated equipment and classroom materials.
During a recent campus visit, we saw firsthand how these investments are already making an impact. In the technology classroom, students were actively using one of the new 3D printers purchased through grant funding. Teachers shared that the equipment has sparked greater confidence, creativity, and engagement among students.
We also toured the cosmetology classroom, where students are gaining hands-on experience with professional tools and supplies that help prepare them for future careers.
Through these programs, Shineforth is creating opportunities for students to build practical skills, confidence, and pathways toward long-term success.
