RACE CF

RACE CF RACE CF supports persons with cystic fibrosis to achieve optimal health through an athletic lifestyle RACE CF INC.

RACE CF started out as a cycling team to support Manny and Tom Goguen, two brothers living with cystic fibrosis. Cycling was their passion and RACE CF helped them achieve goals they only dreamed of. Now Manny with the help of family and friends has grown RACE CF to be able to help many with cystic fibrosis. The new larger mission of RACE CF is in its Athletes with Cystic Fibrosis program. A progra

m that supports persons with cystic fibrosis to achieve optimal health through an athletically active lifestyle. Despite the immense barrier of a disease that attacks the key components of aerobic sport- the digestive system and more severely the lungs- Manny and Tom followed in their father’s and older brother’s footsteps in cycling. Driven by their immense competitive spirit and desire for success as well as that of their teammates, Manny and Tom have been incredibly dedicated to their training, and have developed impressive strength and resilience to normal infection and deterioration in their lungs. Their doctors and specialists at UMASS Medical have attributed their abnormally good health condition to their diligence in taking their medications and doing treatments as well as the vigorous aerobic demands of cycling at such a high level. Manny has represented the United States in Europe competing in a world cup on two occasions; Tom won a medal at the US national championships as a junior. They now wish to bring motivation to all who live with this incurable disease, inspiring them to be active and push through the daily hardships of CF to build fitness. That is why they have started Athletes with Cystic Fibrosis! Manny and Tom, with the help of family, friends and RACE CF have experienced a nearly normal life as well as added years to their future due to their dedication to an athletically active lifestyle. They now wish a normal life for all persons with cystic fibrosis and believe Athletes with Cystic Fibrosis is the answer!
