Sadly, today is FF/EMT Jenny Richard last shift for HFD. We will be saying goodbye to our sister. She has been a great addition to the department and Local for the time she’s been here leaving a lasting impression.
She was always the first one to volunteer to help assist or flat out run a fundraiser or help the group pick up groceries and cook for storm coverage. Aside from being a hard worker and not being afraid to do the job or get dirty, she always would say the words “what can i help you with”.
She was always full of thoughtful ideas, on and off duty. When on shift she always insisted and made a freshly prepared 483 ingredient 26 step meal she wanted to “share” (force feed us till we couldn’t move). We already ate good but who knew a salad could be that involved or pasta so fancy, never mind the other random recipes we’ll probably be asking her about forever.
Jenny provided a ‘fresh outlook’ towards how we live around the station and yes even decorate, including for the holidays….every…single…last…holiday….all of them…😂🤣Including forcing all of us (yes both Chiefs AND Petes dog included) to make home made hand and paw traced turkeys for Thanksgiving and decorate them for the kitchen wall, took her awhile but eventually she convinced all of us and there was a couple dozen individual hand turkeys and one dog paw turkey on the wall.
A firehouse family is tight not just because we depend on each other, or are a team, but because we live with each other in close quarters for long hours or even days at a time and not always during the best of times or circumstances, but her personality and work ethic made it super easy and a pleasure to be around.
I feel it’s safe to say for all of us that she honestly filled a gap no one knew we had here and we will miss her, but hope for the best for her and her husband, and her family, and a successful and healthy future in her new state she will call home, Maine.
Jenny, “life happens” but someday maybe you can find your way back to Local 2225, as you will always have a place with us. Goodluck kid.
