LocalShare

LocalShare LocalShare connects people in need to locally grown, natural foods through gleaning and education.

The mission of LocalShare: To connect people in need with organic or naturally grown, healthy locally produced food. By involving people from all sectors of our community, we hope to heighten awareness of socio-economic issues as well as the importance of supporting and preserving local farms. The program encompasses growing healthy food, rescuing and using what cannot be sold at market, getting it to people in need, teaching them how to cook and preserve it, and creating community.

Thank you to our Memorial Day weekend Miracle Worker, Lt. Jerry Plum!

Lt. Plum was on his way to work on Thursday when he heard we needed help.
The cooler, where we store thousands of farm-fresh eggs, suddenly broke.
With time of the essence, he jumped into action immediately to make sure the fresh food wouldn’t go to waste.

Lt. Plum not only helped Localshare find homes for over 200 dozen eggs… he delivered them himself!

Handing healthy farm-fresh food to families, seniors, and houses of worship in Plainfield - all before heading off to work.

Thank you for answering the call, whether on or off-duty Lt. Plum!
And thank you to all of the volunteers who make our mission possible. Foodshed Alliance

What an amazing partnership has developed. 💚

Foodshed Alliance’s LocalShare program donated more than 50 dozen eggs & 15+ lbs of spinach & lettuces to the Phillipsburg High School’s culinary program. The Phillipsburg High School’s culinary program, lead by Tina Brandes, were able to create another amazing meal to be donated to the River of Life food pantry on Saturday.

Mrs Brandes educated the students on the “organic egg.”
The students noticed the rich golden yellow color that came from the organic farm fresh eggs. She even played a game & had the kids try to pick out the organic egg.

The students sorted the lettuces 🥬& scrambled the dozens of 🥚eggs.

Over 50 delicious chef salads 🥗& egg furtadas were made by the PHS culinary class students.

The room buzzed with excitement as the kids learned the finished product would end up at the River of Life food pantry in Phillipsburg. What joy to be able to prepare food to be distributed in their own town!!! 😊🥰

Thank you to all who participated in getting healthy food back into our community.

From the farmers who donated the food, to the LocalShare program & the volunteers who went out into the fields to glean the food. To the drivers who transported the food from the farms & to the schools. To Mrs Brandes who teaches her students the importance of contributing to the community at the same time teaching her students how to prepare nourishing meals. To ALL of the students in the culinary program for being so positive & eager to learn & prepare these amazing dishes! 😋😋
To Stefanie & all of the volunteers at ROL for welcoming the dishes made by the students & feeding our community.

It takes a village to feed a village!!! Thank you all. 💚💚 Phillipsburg High School, Town of Phillipsburg, Foodshed Alliance, Rockridge farm Andover nj, Ethos Farm to Health

🍎 Attention New Jersey Fruit Growers 🍑

Rutgers University is conducting a brief survey to better understand how the April frost events have impacted fruit crop production, farm operations, and the economic challenges growers are facing across New Jersey.

The information gathered will help communicate the severity of these impacts to legislative offices, the Farm Service Agency, and other partners, while also helping shape future research and Extension support programs for fruit growers statewide.

Thank you to all of the growers continuing to navigate unpredictable weather and support our local food system. 🌱

Our Free Produce Pop-Up Markets are open to everyone—no sign-up, no hassle, just show up. Pick up fresh seasonal produce harvested from New Jersey farms by our amazing volunteers. Take what your household needs, and head home at no cost. Just bring a bag and come as you are 🥕💚

In New Jersey, too many of our neighbors are facing food insecurity while fresh, healthy food is also being wasted in our food system. These markets help close that gap, rescuing seasonal produce and getting them directly into the community at no cost, no barriers, no questions asked.

Want to know when the next one is? Updated market dates in are on our website and pinned at the top of our social pages! FoodshedAlliance.org/localshare for more.

Phillipsburg High School students prepare fresh, Jersey-grown veggies to help feed families in need this Spring.

Under the direction of Tina Brandes, culinary students learned how to clean, cut, cook, and store over 200lbs worth of butternut squash, all donated by LocalShare!

The prepped veggies then went to River of Life food pantry, led by Stefanie Dowson.
Dozens of nutritious meals, including roasted and mashed butternut squash, were handed out to the community.

An example of the importance of supporting a sustainable local food system!Phillipsburg High School

Good, healthy food belongs to everyone!!

That’s why Foodshed Alliance’s LocalShare program works to connect fresh, locally grown produce with our community through Free Produce Pop-Up Markets across the north western parts of NJ. These markets are one way we’re expanding food access, reducing food waste, and supporting local farms. Making it easier for more families to bring home healthy, local food at no cost.

If you’re in the area, stop by one of our upcoming pop-ups, bring your own bags, and help spread the word to friends, family, and neighbors who could benefit. Small actions like sharing a post can help connect more people to fresh food!

Thank you to our community partners and local farms for helping make this work possible. Learn more at Foodshedalliance.org/localshare
