Members of the Hope Civitan Club recently donated dog food, treats, and gift cards for supplies to Hope for Paws, animal adoption volunteer group that advocates for dogs and puppies in the Hope animal shelter.
Presenting the seven bags of dog food, three bags of treats, and a couple of gift cards were Civitans Judy Lee, Amber Mackey, Debbie Hines and Patti Manus. Hope for Paws volunteers accepting the donation were Donnia Cox, Sandy Parrish, Carol Robinson, and Von Russell and her grandson.
Hope for Paws encourages adoption, looks for foster families, and helps provide food and medicine for dogs at the animal shelter. Donations of dog chow, puppy chow, and gift cards to Walmart or Atwoods are always appreciated.
The Hope Civitan Club voted to donate to Hope for Paws as part of its celebration of Civitan Awareness Month in April.

The Hope Civitan Club, along with Civitans worldwide, observes Clergy Appreciation Week in early February each year. Hope Mayor Don Still recently met with local Civitans and signed a proclamation, designating February 1-7 as Clergy Appreciation Week in Hope.
The annual observance honors leaders of all faiths for their dedicated service to their local communities. Civitan clubs have set aside a week in February since 1963 to honor local faith leaders, inspired by the story of four military chaplains. On February 3, 1943, a Methodist minister, a Catholic priest, a Reformed minister, and a Jewish rabbi all sacrificed their lives in service to others on board the USS Dorchester after it was hit by a torpedo. They gave their own life jackets to other passengers and locked arms in prayer as the ship submerged into the icy waters. The story of the Four Chaplains has been commemorated in several books, films, and in song.
The proclamation signed by Mayor Still on behalf of the City Board of Directors calls "upon all of our citizens to show their appreciation and support for the clergy whose efforts make this community a better place in which to live."
The Hope Civitan Club celebrates Clergy Appreciation with a banquet during the first meeting in February, to which the members invite their clergy. The club also encourages everyone to show appreciation to Hope’s dedicated members of the clergy throughout the year.
Pictured with Mayor Still at the proclamation signing are Civitans (from left) Judy Lee, Kim Smith, Helen Wood and Twyla Pruden.

The Hope Civitan Club recently donated 72 hygiene kits and a number of blankets to The Hope Connexion, located at 401 S. Washington Street in Hope. Pictured with Hope Connexion Outreach Center Director Amy Perry, second from left, are Civitans Amber Mackey, Twyla Pruden, and Judy Lee. The hygiene kits, each packaged in a colorful zipper bag, were made up of necessary items such as toothpaste, tooth brushes, and bath items. The Hope ConneXion, a non-profit organization, provides cooling and warming centers, "blessing boxes" with non-perishable food items, and other means of support to those in need. The center's monthly compassion collection for October is focused on socks and foot and hand warmers.
