Today, we pause to honor the life and legacy of Reverend Jesse Jackson — a towering figure in the ongoing struggle for justice, equity, and human dignity.

From marching alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to founding the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, from two historic presidential campaigns to global diplomacy that freed hostages abroad, Rev. Jackson spent his life proving that hope is not passive—it's a decision to act.

Happy Kwanzaa! Habari Gani?

Kwanzaa is observed by millions of Americans in the United States and spans from December 26 through January 1. Each day of the week is meant to represent one of the seven core principles of the holiday:

Umoja (unity)
Kujichagulia (self-determination)
Ujima (collective work and responsibility)
Ujamaa (cooperative economics)
Nia (purpose)
Kuumba (creativity)
Imani (faith)

“They are meant to be a guiding force for Americans of African descent,” says Kofi Hunter, cofounder of New York’s Kwanzaa Fest BK. “The principles, or the Nguzo Sabo, are specifically designed to lead us in our journey toward liberation.”

The greeting for each day of Kwanzaa is Habari Gani?, which is Swahili for "How are you?"

Tomorrow is Día de los Mu***os.

“The Mexican holiday, also known as Day of the Dead, extends over the first two days of November and has nothing to do with Halloween. It's an ode to the afterlife and a reminder that death is nothing to be afraid.”
