Hoover, Alabama, American Legion Post 911

Hoover, Alabama, American Legion Post 911 U. S. Military Veteran organization Ryan Winslow grew up in Hoover, Alabama and dreamed of becoming a police officer.

To further that goal, Ryan enlisted in the Marine Corps in January of 2005 and completed Boot Camp at Parris Island on May 20. After training as a TOW gunner, he was assigned to Scout Platoon, 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division and deployed to Iraq on March 25, 2006. He was killed on April 15, 2006 and was posthumously promoted to Lance Corporal. The American Legion was chartered in 1919 by C

ongress as a patriotic veterans organization and has since grown to be the nation's largest veterans organization founded on the values, contributions and sacrifices of those who answered the country's call to arms.

One of the two missions of The American Legion Veterans & Children Foundation - for which the Legacy Run fundraises - is to cover the cost of training American Legion-accredited service officers.
