Hoover Historical Society

Hoover Historical Society Promoting and Preserving the history of Hoover and its families.

The Hoover Historical Society was established to promote knowledge about the past, current and future development of the city, to preserve and make available such material for future reference, to encourage fellowship and public outreach; and to cooperate with other city entities and historical groups. We maintain an office and library of Hoover history and have a large collection of folklore mat

erials donated from the estate of Jack Crouch. Our building was the earliest Bluff Park Elementary School and now serves the community as the Hoover Community School. We hold bi-monthly meetings on the third Tuesday at the Hoover Public Library and also special events as well.

Unite to clean up our city! America250

One month from today, we will celebrate America's 250th birthday!! 🇺🇸

Let's show our love for our country and our community by taking part in the Hoover Litter Challenge!

Together, we can celebrate America's 250th birthday by giving back to the place we call home. Every piece of litter picked up makes a difference!

Seven special plates, inscribed in French and translated by Jennifer Watts (shown here) tells the story of Lafayette's time in America and later, in Alabama. See our last (May) newsletter for Jim Langley's research on Lafayette's time in Alabama.
This weekend, May 24th, we and some volunteers are cleaning our 14 historical markers and decorating with red/white/blue ribbons! Watch for it!

Recently we hosted members of the Shelby County Historical Society on a Sunday afternoon...to share the Stinson Ole Place with the membership! The cabin used to sit in Shelby County, but moved to Jefferson Ct./Hoover in 1996 and was dedicated in 1997 for the teaching of Pioneer Alabama to elementary school students, and others! We were glad to share with these folks!
