A week on the ground in Rasuwa and Nuwakot.

Since the floods struck, our team has been moving through the hardest-hit communities, delivering what families and health facilities need most: medicines and supplies where the supply chain has broken down, power and fuel to keep hospitals and birthing centers running, food and dignity kits for displaced families, and psychological first aid for survivors carrying the weight of what they have lost.

This work is carried out in close coordination with the Government of Nepal and local partners, in communities we have served for years. It is that long-standing presence that allowed our team to respond quickly when it mattered most.

Catastrophic floods have devastated central Nepal, including communities we have served alongside the Government of Nepal for over a decade. Thousands of families have lost their homes, and many have lost far more.

On August 26, a glacier collapse sent flash floods through central Nepal, through communities we have served for years. Homes are gone. Health facilities are gone. Thousands of families have lost everything.

In moments like this, a pregnant woman or a newborn baby is among the first to be cut off from the care they need to survive.

Our team is already on the ground. Alongside the Government of Nepal, we are getting shelter, food, and safe maternal and newborn care to families who have lost their homes.

Our hearts are with everyone affected by the flash floods along the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading, as well as in surrounding areas.

We are grateful to the Government of Nepal and the search-and-rescue teams working around the clock in extraordinarily difficult conditions.

All of our team members and partner staff are safe. We are holding the families who have lost loved ones and the communities facing the long road of recovery ahead close in our thoughts.

In Nepal’s Madhesh Province, rising heat is making pregnancy and childbirth more dangerous for mothers and newborns. Thanks to a new two-year grant from The Sanofi Foundation, we’re working to change that.

Alongside our government partners, we ensure the local health system can protect families and frontline workers as the climate changes. We will help keep maternity facilities cooler as temperatures rise, prepare health workers for hotter days, and ensure local communities are better prepared to respond to heatwaves.

This is our first initiative focused on climate resilience, and a real milestone for our team. Thank you to the Sanofi Foundation for believing in locally-led solutions.

Breastfeeding is often treated as something a mother figures out on her own. It shouldn't be.

With the right support, a skilled health worker nearby, and guidance in the first few days after delivery, more mothers can breastfeed, and more newborns get a healthy start.

Every mother deserves care for her mind, not only her body. Today, Nepal took a bold step to make that real.

The Family Welfare Division (FWD) and the Ministry of Health and Food Safety, with technical support from the World Health Organization (WHO) Nepal and One Heart Worldwide (OHW), convened a co-creation workshop to refine Nepal's first Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) to integrate maternal mental health into antenatal and postnatal care at the community level.

The workshop brought together government leaders, mental health experts, obstetricians, public health professionals, and development partners. Together they refined the SoP and built consensus around one shared goal. Maternal mental health belongs in routine care, everywhere.

As Dr. Madan Kumar Upadhaya, Director of FWD, noted: "Maternal mental health should be an integral part of all maternal health services and a shared responsibility across the health system."

This marks an important milestone toward care that treats both body and mind, from pregnancy through the months after birth. We are proud to support the Government of Nepal on this important journey, made possible with the support of the PECO Foundation.
