Thank you to Central Alabama Community Foundation for their $5,000.00 grant to assist kidney patients in Montgomery, Macon, and Lowndes Counties with medication costs, medical bills, handicap equipment, emergency transportation, utility expenses and travel to dialysis treatments three times per week. We are so appreciative for their continued support!

We are deeply saddened to share one of our amazing volunteers and past Honorary Patient Chair for the Montgomery Kidney Walk, Mr. James Belton, has passed away. Mr. Belton had been diagnosed with FSGS (Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis) and eventually received a kidney transplant in March of 2022. Through his experience, he became very dedicated in sharing his story in hopes of helping others and raising funds for local kidney patients. We are forever grateful for his involvement with AKF!

When a Kennett man was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2024, his family began a desperate search to find a matching donor and get him out of the dialysis routine keeping him alive.

Exciting things are already happening as we begin planning for the 2027 Birmingham Kidney Walk & Celebration!

Tracie Ridley and Marcie Prescott with the Central Alabama Region are hard at work preparing for what promises to be an incredible event. Yesterday, we had the privilege of meeting with Arnold Hamilton, who will serve as one of our 2027 Patient Chairs.

Arnold lived with kidney disease until receiving a life-saving kidney transplant in 2011. His donor was his sister, Floresha Watkins, whose selfless gift changed his life. Together, Arnold and Floresha will serve as our 2027 Patient Co-Chairs, sharing their inspiring story of hope, resilience, and the power of living donation.

We can't wait to work alongside them as we raise awareness, celebrate kidney warriors, and support the kidney community across Central Alabama! 💚
