Cowboy delights in helping little kids experience the joy of horses.

Whether he’s carrying a nervous first-time rider, standing patiently for extra hugs, or teaching children how to slow down and connect, he genuinely loves and wants his job. Our responsibility is to help him continue doing that while staying as comfortable and healthy as possible for as long as possible.

Right now, we won’t know what our options are for managing his PPID until the current veterinary bill is paid in full and we can move forward with the next steps.

Beyond that, Cowboy desperately needs sponsors.

In his advanced age and recent hoof trim changes, consistent muscular care with is becoming increasingly important. PPID can be incredibly hard on a horse’s body, affecting muscle development, topline, recovery, and overall comfort. Regardless of whether he is being ridden, Cowboy deserves the support he needs to feel good in his own skin.

That means bodywork, arthritis support, specialized care, and potentially medication to help him continue thriving here at HNH.

We believe horses like Cowboy have earned the right to age with dignity, comfort, and purpose.

If you’d like to become part of Cowboy’s care team through sponsorship or a donation toward his veterinary expenses, we would be so grateful. Every contribution helps us continue showing up for him the way he has shown up for so many children over the years🤍

We’ve been protecting and advocating for Norm for nearly nine years now🐎

Some of you might remember when I first brought him home and realized just how poorly he had been treated. Norman completely reshaped the way I approached horses, training, and trust. He forced me to slow down, listen better, and rebuild my heart around compassion and intention.

He has always been the horse people used, misunderstood, pushed too hard, and eventually gave up on. So we chose to take all of the pressure off and let him learn what safety and trust actually felt like for the first time.

Over the years, he has become the gentlest, cuddliest bear of a horse. His nickname “Mr Attentions” sums him up perfectly😂

Now we need to come through for him again.

This testing may be the beginning of helping him feel healthy again or it may uncover something more serious. Neurological symptoms in horses can sometimes be disease-based, like WEE, Lyme or EPM, or mechanical, like spinal cord compression.

Tuesday’s visit included neurological exams and bloodwork sent to Cornell for testing, specifically for Norman. The total vet bill came to $2,098.

💸 UPDATE: $398 / $2,098 raised as of noon 5/28

We need to pay the vet Monday so we can continue moving forward in figuring out what is going on with both boys.

If you would like to help Norman and support the herd, you can become a Herd Hero by donating or simply sharing our content and story. Every single act of support matters to us more than you know.

No amount is insignificant. We are so grateful for every person helping us show up for Norman the same way he has shown up for us all these years🤍

Yesterday was really hard.

We originally planned on doing the bare minimum with the guidance of our vet, but once Norman showed positive with neurological signs, everything changed.

He did not do well on the tail pull test and when his head was elevated, he paced instead of walked (moving in a two-beat gait instead of four). Bloodwork was sent to Cornell to test for Lyme and EPM.

He did not receive the bare minimum. He received everything he needed.

Now we wait. Impatiently.

We don’t know what happens next yet. We are just praying this is something treatable and fixable for him.

Right now, we could really use your support. Yesterday’s vet bill totaled $2,100, mainly because of the extensive bloodwork and diagnostics needed to see what’s happening to Norm. Norman’s visit alone was around $800.

If you feel led to help support Norman and the herd through sponsorships or donations toward veterinary care, we would be so grateful. I have a feeling this may only be the beginning and we want to be prepared to continue showing up for the rest of the horses too.

A year since this little pony came in and out of our lives.

Princess arrived laminitic and foundered after not receiving the care she needed…for a long time. We were told her hooves were “deformed” like this since they could remember. This kind of damage happens over a long time, a very long time.

Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon to see ponies with hooves that are too long, clubbed, curled, flat, unbalanced, painful. Neglect is often normalized until suffering becomes severe and undeniable.

Princess’s story continues to remind us why ethical horsemanship and early intervention matter so much.

At HNH Sanctuary, stories like hers help teach the next generation what isn’t right and what informed horse care should look like instead.

Her life mattered. Her story still does♥️

So excited about this new learning tool for the horsemanship program! We put it to use this week and the kids LOVED it🎉

It’s so encouraging to see our hard work coming to life and tangibly impacting our community! In person tools, online resources and a take home workbook…we are really taking this pony school seriously🤣

What do you think of this saddle map?💭

So many kids come through our barn doors, but none more than Judah of course. Loud, messy, a little turbulent at 2.5… he’s a lot of her to process.

Honey recently decided, he’s not so bad. Now she watches him, regulates, and even relaxes as he buzzes by on his bike or flings dirt around.

It’s exposure and learning she’s safe that gets this progress. It’s kind, slow and patient. It’s starts with Judah understanding and watching. We step in to shape them both. It ends with Honey trying and understanding.

This is sanctuary♥️

The world is so hurt and you can see it in the way we treat our youth and the helpless animals we rescue. So, we created a curriculum alongside many kid focused professionals that intentionally deepens a child’s faith, character, and knowledge about horses on an emotional and scientific level. From behavioral sciences to anatomy, to identity work to extending reach into a community, this curriculum does the dirty work of developing an equipped next generation, while keeping horses the light hearted focus!

Partner with HNH today as we open our summer program (location pending), professional certification, and homeschool curriculum! Let’s go beyond the gate together, for the next generation and for the horses🐎💕
