A "BEARY" GOOD BIRTHDAY!

Yesterday Chip and I had the blessing of being able to return to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital to meet with Andrew's former daytime nurse, Ileana, and to hand out "Buddy Bears" to the children in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. While it may be difficult for some, for us it was a treasure to go back to the place where we said our goodbyes and last held our son nine years ago.

We were afraid we would not have enough bears as the unit has grown so much; however, the bears just seemed to multiply as we handed them out! We were able go give out bears not just to the patients in the PICU, but to the entire 4th floor!

To see the beautiful smiles on these very sick children's faces was such a gift to us. One little 4 year old, Noah, gave us a private "concert" on his harmonica and we sang along to the ABC song. He just happened to be in the very same room that we called "Andrew's room" for those 5 days in 2007. The parents were equally overwhelmed with joy and gratitude at a time where their lives are filled with great uncertainty and sadness. One mom stood in the hallway with tears in her eyes and all I could do was to hug her and pray for her.

We know this is how Andrew would want to have us celebrate his birthday...giving to others and loving on those who are in great need of HOPE.

With the threat of heavy rain and thunderstorms in the forecast, lots of prayer went out days before this event....we knew WHO was in charge of the weather (it wasn't us). With a delayed start, Pastor Kevin from Grace Capital Church came out to speak on behalf of our family as well as tell about the Foundation/Youth Center and to pray for the event. As soon as the golf carts started to leave for their tees, the sun came out! We could all sense a little smile from Heaven as we looked up into the sky---while missing our Andrew, Matty, and Sarah. This year's tournament was dedicated to our Matty who was truly missed (he always made his presence known). Special honors were for our niece (Andrew's cousin), Sarah Elliott Rousseau, and former golfers/supports, Frank Pastore and Haden Edwards.

While our numbers were low with regards to golfers this year, our spirits were high as we held our 8th (Andrew's favorite number and Yaz's retired number) annual tournament---our only fundraiser to benefit the Andrew J. Allard Foundation.

After a delicious prime rib dinner, we decided to hold off with the auction and hold a future online auction (stay tuned for the date!). A HUGE thank you to all who came out to be a part of this day...to our golfers, sponsors, and especially our faithful volunteers. You truly bless not only our family but also the many many children and families within the community as well as across the world who benefit from the Foundation. On behalf of those, we say THANK YOU. Our lives have been forever changed in so many ways, but to be able to bless others is what keeps us going day to day.

Here's a post written by Libby Moore, cousin to Andrew.....

Some of my fondest memories growing up have been spent with my cousins, Andrew and Abbie Allard. With Andrew being 5 months younger than me and Abbie being a year older than me, we acted like siblings..they have been my best friends. Living in Mississippi and with them living in New Hampshire/Florida, time spent together was limited and extremely valuable. One summer in particular I will treasure forever. At first I was upset because Abbie was going to be busy for most of my trip, but the Lord's plans are always greater. That summer I got to spend almost an entire month with Andrew. We were constantly on the go..playing mini-golf, eating ice cream, and (my most favorite memory) going to my first Red Sox game. After the game, we passed by a McDonald's and immediately Andrew asked my dad to stop so he could get a cheeseburger. A few moments later we realized we were lost after we passed the same McDonald's and of course Andrew begged for dad to stop for a cheeseburger. After passing the same McDonald's at least three times he finally told dad to stop to ask for directions..at McDonald's. (He's always been a smooth talker.) Well we didn't end up stopping for a cheeseburger that night. Well in memory of Andrew and his 22nd birthday, we stopped at the McDonald's in our town wearing our Red Sox shirts to have a cheeseburger for Andrew. I'll never forget all the memories I shared with Andrew and I can't wait to see him again. Happy 22nd birthday to the goofiest and kindest man of God I know. I love and miss you, Buddy. ❤️❤️

In honor of Andrew's 22nd birthday, a visit was made to the Pediatric ICU at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital. Accompanied by Andrew's day nurse, Ileana, teddy bears (known as "Buddy Bears") were given out to the children in that unit. Andrew was always known by his never-ending from ear to ear smile.....and we were blessed to see so many smiles from these beautiful precious ones.

Thank you to all who came out to Friday's golf tournament! This is a photo taken of Chip and Linda applauding the golfers and volunteers who made this all happen. (Note the ray of sunshine that looks like it has rainbow colors above Chip's hands...interesting!)

The 7th Annual Andrew J. Allard Golf Classic was held yesterday at Pembroke Pines Country Club in Pembroke! Over 116 golfers joined us along with 15 plus volunteers. The weather was great (sunny but warm), the food was excellent, prizes were plenty, auction was awesome....but most of all....we all had FUN! After all, it was a FUNdraiser for the Foundation!
