Every August 26th, we celebrate Women's Equality Day, marking the anniversary of the 19th Amendment and the generations of women who fought to secure it. At AAUW Honolulu, we see this day as a reminder that equality isn't something we've fully arrived at, it's something we keep building, together. From closing the pay gap to opening doors in leadership, the work continues every day. 💜

Congratulations to second-time Graduate Scholarship Awardee, Marissa Watanabe! 👏🎓

Before diving into neuroscience, Marissa was a Kaiser High School grad who headed to Washington State University for her Bachelor's in Microbiology, then came home to Oʻahu to work as a research assistant with the Kuakini Honolulu Heart Program. It was there, studying neurodegeneration, that she found her calling, and she's now a fourth-year Ph.D. student proudly continuing that journey with AAUW's support. 🧠🌺

"Thank you for awarding me the AAUW Honolulu Career and Leadership Development Grant. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to attend the NSTA Conference in Anaheim. As a special education kumu at Ka Waihona o Ka Naʻauao Public Charter School, I am always searching for ways to make learning meaningful, engaging, and accessible for every student. I had the opportunity to learn from educators across the country, explore innovative ideas, and discover new ways to support student learning."
