When parents ask us about the long-term impact of Scouting, this is exactly the kind of story we love to share.

We recently got a fantastic update from an Aloha Council dad, Michael, about where his two daughters, Aroha and Kana, are off to next:

🦅 His youngest daughter, Aroha "Ari" Walsh, completed her Eagle Scout project through a community science initiative with the Audubon Society. She joined the Stream Explorers program at Maine Audubon, which engages youth in conservation and water health. Because of her outstanding contributions, Aroha was recently selected for induction into The Explorer's Club! It is incredibly rare for a high school student to be admitted to the club, let alone a student who got her start in Scouting in Hawaii.

🎒 His oldest daughter, Kana Walsh, was just accepted to Columbia University! But before she hits the books, she’s heading out on a backpacking orientation trip through the Delaware Gap. As Michael shared, her deep love of the outdoors was fueled by her time in her BSA Scout Troop and Venturing Crew right here in Hawaii.

As a parent, Michael's reflection on their journey says it all: "Thank you for all that the Aloha Council did to set her on this path in life. If it wasn’t for the council, the pandemic would have had a negative impact on her development instead of a positive one."

This is exactly what it means to Dream Big. We are so incredibly proud of Aroha and Kana for the foundation they built here at home.

Want to learn more about Aroha's community science project? Read her guest blog post detailing her contributions to the Stream Explorers program here: https://maineaudubon.org/news/guest-blog-post-stream-explorers-opens-doors/

Join us in the comments to congratulate them on their next big adventures!

Grab three friends and step up to the Maui Sportsman's Challenge! If you've ever wanted to test your outdoor skills while supporting local youth programs, this is your chance.

We are hosting a two-day fundraiser at Camp Maluhia for adults ages 18 and older. Four-person teams can choose to compete on either Saturday, Sept. 26, or Sunday, Sept. 27. No previous experience is required—we provide the equipment and safety instructions before the competition begins.

Event Highlights:

🏹 10 outdoor skill stations including shotgun, pistol, rifle, archery, slingshot, darts, atlatl, tomahawk/knife throwing, and an airsoft gallery.

🥞 Breakfast, coffee, and lunch are included.

🏆 Awards recognizing the top individual and team performances.

Space is strictly limited to just 24 teams total (12 teams per day), so early registration is highly encouraged. Every entry directly funds the camps, service projects, and year-round programs that teach our keiki leadership, teamwork, and outdoor skills.

What an incredible journey!

Our Hawaiʻi contingent has returned home from the National Jamboree with unforgettable memories, new friendships and stories that will last a lifetime. Most importantly, everyone had an amazing experience and returned home safely.

One of the best measures of a successful Jamboree? Before they even unpacked their bags, many of our Scouts were already talking about wanting to attend another one. That's the kind of impact this once-in-a-lifetime Scouting experience can have.

From challenging themselves on high-adventure activities, including whitewater rafting, to connecting with Scouts from across the country, our youth demonstrated teamwork, resilience and the spirit of Scouting every step of the way.

Mahalo to our dedicated adult leaders, volunteers, families and supporters who helped make this adventure possible. Your encouragement and commitment gave these Scouts an experience they'll never forget.

Last night, we officially sent off 38 of our Honolulu Scouts as they boarded their flight to the 2026 National Jamboree ✈️ They will meet up with fellow Scouts from Hawai‘i Island, Maui, and Kaua‘i before heading to West Virginia as one united, statewide contingent.

The National Jamboree is Scouting’s premier event and only happens once every four years. Because youth can only attend between the ages of 12 and 18, this is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for these kids.

This crew, which includes five Eagle Scouts and several multigenerational Scouting families, has spent nearly two years preparing, planning, and fundraising to make this trip a reality. That is the kind of dedication and grit we love to see. Now, all that hard work pays off. They are about to spend the next couple of weeks whitewater rafting, rock climbing, zip lining, mountain biking, and connecting with thousands of other Scouts from across the entire country.

We are incredibly proud of this group. Have the time of your lives out there in West Virginia, stay safe, and show everyone what the Aloha Council is all about! 🤙🏼

The outdoors is the ultimate test of grit. 🏕️

Since day one, Scouting has been about mastering the wild. When kids figure out how to thrive outside, they build the resilience to handle whatever life throws at them next.
The Camping Merit Badge is about total self-reliance. That’s exactly why it’s an Eagle-required badge.

Parents and Unit Leaders 📣 If you have high school-aged Scouts looking to knock out some service hours this summer, we’ve got a great opportunity for them!

Our friends at Goodwill Hawaii need some extra hands to help wrap up their massive Goodwill Goes GLAM event. They are looking for as many older Scouts as possible to jump in and assist with the event teardown.

This is a fast-paced, three-hour shift where Scouts will be taking clothes off hanging racks, clearing merchandise from shelves, and packing items into large transport boxes. It’s a simple way to step up, put in some hard work, and support an organization that does so much good across our islands.

📅 Saturday, July 18 | 4:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Today is a major milestone for our country. Happy 4th of July to our entire Scouting ‘ohana as we celebrate America’s 250th!

For two and a half centuries, the story of our nation has been written by people stepping up to lead, innovate, and serve. Here at the Aloha Council, we get a front-row seat to watch the next generation of those leaders grow every single day.
Through Scouting America’s partnership with , our keiki are doing more than just watching history happen. As Scouting America CEO Roger Krone perfectly put it:

“Together, we’ll help Scouts write the next chapter of America’s story.”

Whether they are learning what it means to be a good citizen, organizing a beach cleanup to protect our island home, or simply showing up for a neighbor in need, our Scouts are celebrating the true ideals of this country through action.
We hope you and your family have a safe, fun, and wonderful Independence Day!

Summer is flying by, and if your house is anything like ours, the battle against screen time is very real right now. But the best childhood memories are made outside, exploring both land and sea adventures. Cub Scouts gives our keiki a real-world playground to test themselves and grow. There’s still plenty of summer left to get them out there.
