🎨 Join watercolor master Tom Lynch for a special 2-day online workshop: Panoramic Landscape!

Whether you're looking to strengthen your landscape skills or create a beautiful finished painting, this workshop is designed to help you grow with confidence.

✨ Day 1: Build Your Foundation
Learn how to paint the essential elements of a landscape without the pressure of completing a finished piece. Tom will demonstrate techniques for painting:
🌄 Sunset skies
🌳 Trees
🌾 Patchwork fields
⛰️ Hills and more!

You'll have plenty of time to practice and receive guidance as you develop the skills that make strong landscape paintings.

✨ Day 2: Create a Finished Painting
Put it all together in a step-by-step painting session while learning key artistic concepts such as:
• Focal Point
• Unity
• Value Changes
• Color
• Design

Follow along with Tom's demonstration, choose from one of his reference photos, or paint from your own composition!

📹 All demonstrations are recorded, so you can pause, rewind, rewatch, and learn at your own pace. Plus, enjoy Tom's professional 3-camera setup for close-up views of every brushstroke and palette mix.

💬 Bonus: Tom will answer questions and offer feedback on your paintings for up to 4 weeks after class!

CALL TO ARTISTS! 🌿🎨 Hawai‘i Watercolor Society members — the Hawai‘i Forestry Association wants YOUR artwork for the 2026 Hawai‘i Woodshow at the Downtown Art Center!
Show off your watercolor depictions of Hawai‘i’s forests and trees. A prospectus will be available soon on the HWS website. This is a Non-Credentialed Exhibit.

🍃 Important Dates
July 27: Digital images due
August 2: Artwork drop-off at DAC
August 7–29: Exhibition open
August 29: Artwork pickup at DAC

🌳Requirements—> view the prospectus (coming soon) on hawaiiwatercolorsociety.org
-Allowed: Transparent watercolor, gouache, watercolor pencils
-Not allowed: Pastels, acrylic, oil, inks

-Min paper size: 4” x 6”
-Max paper size: 18" × 24"

-Min framed size: 6” x 8”
-Max framed size: 24" × 30"

-Must be professionally framed with wire + D-rings

🪵Entry Details
-Works must feature Hawai‘i forests or trees
-Submit entries to: [email protected]
-Limited availability
First 25 qualifying entries accepted
Artists may submit one entry. If 25 entries are not received, artists may submit an additional entry
-Option to sell your artwork (HFIA oversees sales + 30% commission)

Yesterday evening, Lovelyn invited us to her place for a HWS Talk Story, focused on the topic of plein air painting!

It was beautiful, casual, friendly, and incredibly informative. Our group is fortunate to have members like Spencer Chang (Spencer Chang), Tamara Moan (Tamara Moan), Carolyn Majewski (Carolyn Majewski), Dwayne Adams (Dwayne Adams), & Donna Summer (Donna Sommer), who are willing to share their skillful work and best tips for watercolor painting en plein air.

Seeing the variety of resourceful set-ups, different solutions to age-old problems, and exchanging new ideas was motivating, to say the least.

Art supplies were swapped! Friends were made! Artists left inspired! We all agreed this needs to happen more often. Who wants to host the next one??
