Kēia Dance Movement

Kēia Dance Movement Kēia Dance Movement is "THIS" dance movement of Hawaii which seeks to mobilize the community to dan

Kēia in Hawaiian means this, right here, in immediate proximity. Through this meaning, the vision of this dance movement is to acknowledge the importance of people celebrating dance and shared space. We are inspired by Hawai'i: the land, the people, its past, and possible futures. Our movement consists of structured improvisation, which incorporates and celebrates the individual dancers' voices. A

t the heart of Kēia Dance Movement is also a movement in terms of redefining what community means. A fluid arts collective of like-minded but diversified talent, we are inspired by the creative explosion happening in Honolulu and seek to honor new frontiers in collaboration, foster expansive interaction, and spark social change through art. We seek to bring dance to a new platform of community involvement by creating immersive events that bring dance out of the auditorium and into the audience. Our first production in 2014, Sea Streets Sky, reflected our urban environment and its relationship with natural elements of Hawaii. Our second production in 2015, Past Boiling Over, presented stories based upon Hawaii's past, our pasts, and how this moves us into the future. The choreography evolved over time, structured by the music and organically transforming with each practice (sometimes via dancing streetstyle in Kaka'ako waterfront park, sometimes on hilltops at sunset). In creating this collective journey we took into account not only the creation of the islands and humanity's impact on the earth, but also drew inspiration from each dancer's individual paths: their childhood, life stories, and what has brought them to THIS point in their life.

ALOHA !!!!

I had the pleasure to be with some incredible KĒIA members that reminded me of home , my family ,what I Love, what I hope to improve, where I came from ,and all of you beautiful people and supporters I love and miss.

We are currently in a super crappy time and I want to remind everyone that we are gonna get through this! We must do so safely, with masks, with kindness, forgiveness, and love for one another and especially through music and dance . Music and dance is one way I connect with others not just on stage in a ballet. A way to deal with emotions by myself and with others. An energy that can be shared through different levels of human experiences no matter what your background is. You don't even have to speak the same language, and we can connect through music and dance.

I would like for us to keep talking about our MUISC AND DANCE IDEAS,and how we can do our part in figuring out how to bring communities together through dance and music again.pleazs try to incorporate music!

To start I would love everyone to post songs they have found or love! New creators only want to share at party's but how about creating a snipet or clip! Art ideas as well please ! Let's talk about this S**T beautiful people! I will talk to Lisa about finding another music and safe platforms Keia might be able to expand!

Hawaii and dance has something to it. It may be lifestyle,it may be the delicious food, it may even be that cute local boy who knows who to kill it on the dance floor . I want to expand Hawaii's grace through KĒIA and how we are all brought together through music, love, dance, and good times. Trust me the ideas are endless!!!!

Please keep your head up and know that you are loved. We will get through this. And in the meantime post them jams you love to hear please !!!!

All the LOVE
SPENCER KEITH 😘
