This week we were honored to be part of Lā ʻOhana Day — a special gathering for 20 families from the kindergarten class who have spent the entire year learning about Hawaiʻi’s coastal and nearshore ecosystems.
This school is doing something truly special — grounding education in mālama honua (caring for the Earth) through hands-on, ʻāina-based learning. These little ones are already building real connections to our local marine resources!
Emily Perkins treated the families to a local limu tasting experience and taught them how to make a fresh limu salad. They also got to taste a crispy panko-crusted taʻape dish served with a savory shoyu garlic sauce and learned about the invasive ta’ape. And they also learned about coral restoration from !
Watching keiki connect to the ʻāina and the kai through food and hands-on learning is exactly what makes this work so meaningful.
Mahalo nui loa to of , the incredible Kumu at and all the families who showed up and made this day come alive. We are so grateful to have been part of this day!
