Immigration policy is changing, and staying informed matters.

This update is designed to inform, educate, and empower our immigrant communities with clear, reliable information about recent changes to U.S. visa processing.

No fear. No panic. Just knowledge, preparation, and engagement.

What happens when we bring law, justice, and research together as tools for advocacy?

In this week’s HCIR and ACLU Fellows Roundtable, we explored how knowledge and evidence can help us understand disparities, challenge assumptions, elevate community experiences, influence policy, and create lasting systems change.

Our fellows brought powerful perspectives on the role of research, not simply to identify what is wrong, but to help us understand why gaps exist, who is impacted, and what we can do differently. Mahalo to both Annabelle and Catherine for sharing their respective research including the driving purpose behind it.

From digital accessibility and language access to disaster response and immigrant rights, one message stood out:

Research can illuminate the gaps. Law can protect rights. Justice centers the people most affected. And advocacy turns knowledge into action.

The goal isn’t simply to understand the problem.

It’s to use what we learn to build something better.

💡 Knowledge. Action. Lasting Change.

Mahalo to Ashlyn Tom and Liza Ryan-Gill for joining our fellows roundtable and sharing their experience with research as a tool to promote justice and equity, and enact change.

SODA 4 Briefing: Immigration Policy & Legal Developments

The fourth SODA workshop was an important briefing on rapidly changing immigration policies and what they mean for our communities—from TPS and asylum to detention, immigration courts, USCIS policies, and enforcement.

Thank you to Aparna Patrie of Patrie Law Associates and HCIR’s Legal Advisor, for sharing her expertise and helping our network stay informed. Several changes occurred and we anticipate more will follow so it is important to understand how these could impact you, or someone you know. For those who were not able to attend, a more detailed brief will be available on our website in the coming weeks.

As SODA continues, we encourage our community to stay informed, stay connected, and stay engaged with HCIR.

Next and finals SODA is scheduled on August 26, Wednesday. Please visit the website for d
