Jarrett Middle School Foundation

Jarrett Middle School Foundation The JMS Foundation is dedicated to assisting in the creation of the
best possible future for Jarrett Middle School students.

The Jarrett Middle School Foundation is comprised of alumni, community and business members who support the school. In past years, Jarrett has been the recipient of funding requests for our Meal Time tracking system, Cross Country Teams, 6th Grade Camp, bus transportation for our annual Banquet, 7th Grade field trips, parent workshops, equipment for a student portfolio program and many other gener

ous donations. The Foundation also supports the grade level incentive program, which provides money to purchase incentives for our student achievement awards. The school would not be able to provide these benefits without the generous support of the Foundation.

= History =
The William Paul Jarrett Middle School Foundation was started in 1995 to fund student activities that were not covered by the annual Department of Education budget. It was the first middle school foundation created in Hawaii, and members of the East Honolulu Rotary Club provided the leadership for this cause. They were instrumental in creating the 501(c)3 non-profit status and organized various events to raise funds. Foundation Grants have helped support:
Library iPods, 6th Grade Camp, Academic Incentives, Positive Behavior Incentives, AV/Studio Lab, Make a Difference Day, Accelerated Reader Program, College Campus Visits, Supplemental Textbooks, Website/Logo Design, Classroom Supplies, And many others...

OWEN NAKAO

Born and raised in Honolulu, Owen attended Jarrett Intermediate School from 1967-1970 and graduated from Kaimuki High School in 1973.

He has served as the head minister of Tenrikyo Pearl Church in Palolo Valley, since 1994 and in 2009. joined the JMS Foundation Board thanks to the urging of his brother, Elmer.

From 2009-2022, he served on the JMS Foundation Board. He served as Board President for five years and Vice President for seven. He admired JMS teachers and staff, noticing how they collaborated and communicated as a team. He always recognized how hard they worked to serve parents and students.

A longtime Palolo resident, he and his siblings attended Jarrett, and it is where he sent his own children. Owen shines as a true example of what it means to give back. He is a tireless volunteer, community advocate, proud parent, and minister. He continues to pour his heart into the community that helped shape him. Owen doesn't just talk about faith and service, he lives it every day, inspiring us all to do the same.

📢 Dr. Kuba has reported on Jarrett Middle School's ranking:

"For the second year in a row since they started to rank middle schools in Hawaii, Jarrett Middle School was ranked as one of the top middle schools in Hawaii in the recent US News & World Report Best Middle Schools Rankings. We ranked #12 amongst 65 middle schools across the state. This ranking is FIRST in the Kaimuki-McKinley-Roosevelt Complex and SECOND in the Honolulu District! I would like to commend our staff for the efforts they put in on a daily basis to push our kids to be EXTRA-ordinary, and I thank all of our families who support the growth of our adolescent learners."
