Today we recognize National Assistive Technology Awareness Day 🌺

Assistive technology (AT) plays a powerful role in building more inclusive communities across Hawaiʻi. At ATRC Hawaii, we see every day how AT opens doors—helping individuals with disabilities, kūpuna, and anyone with access needs live, learn, work, and connect more independently.

From simple tools like magnifiers and adaptive utensils to advanced communication devices and smart home systems, AT empowers people to fully participate in what matters most. This day is about celebrating innovation while also highlighting the importance of access, equity, and choice.

We remain committed to expanding access to assistive technology statewide through device loans, training, and community outreach. We encourage individuals, families, educators, and service providers to explore how AT can enhance quality of life and remove barriers.

Together, we can ensure that everyone in Hawaiʻi has the tools and support they need to thrive. 💙

Assistive technology is about far more than basic needs; it is the foundation for participation, independence, safety, and dignity. It is the difference between simply surviving and truly thriving.

As we work toward a more all-encompassing future, consider these three questions:
• Personal Tech: Have you explored the built-in accessibility features on your daily devices?
• The Workplace: Does your organization actively prioritize accessible technology for all employees?
• Community: Are your public events and digital spaces fully accessible to every participant?

Remember: Assistive Technology. Everywhere. Everyone!

Assistive Technology can be funded through:
• Medicaid State Plans
• Medicaid Waivers
• Money Follows the Person
• Medicare
• Private insurance
• Vocational Rehabilitation
• School systems
• State AT Act Programs
• And more!

Assistive Technology. Access Matters. Awareness Matters. Policy Matters.

assistive technology. everywhere. everyone.

From Twinkle to Wrinkle – Assistive Technology supports people throughout the lifespan!

Assistive Technology is not just about disability – it’s about independence at every stage of life. This includes people who have temporary, intermittent, and progressive disabilities. It also includes those aging into disability and those who do not yet identify as having a disability!

Assistive Technology devices include early intervention communication tools, learning supports in school, workplace accommodations, and aging-in-place technologies.

assistive technology. everywhere. everyone.
